Job description
The South Wales Trauma Network will have a co-ordinating responsibility for ensuring the needs are met for all patients with major trauma and this will include: Deputise for the Clinical Director when required. Chair and lead network clinical and non-clinical guidelines working group. Report into the governance subcommittee and to attend network board where requested. Providing services based around the needs of individuals, irrespective of the geographical location in which their injuries occur.
Ensuring patients with major trauma are taken by road or air ambulance as quickly and safely as possible to the hospital that can best manage the definitive care of their injuries either directly or by transfer between hospitals. Supporting patients families and carers. Providing a comprehensive plan for rehabilitation at a very early stage in the patient pathway. Ensuring best evidence-based practice is introduced and maintained.
The network includes all providers of trauma care including pre-hospital care, hospital and rehabilitation services. The network collaborates in ensuring consistency of standards of care driven by agreed policies, protocols and procedures applied across the network, and the involvement of all network members in a programme of continuous quality improvement informed by consistent clinical data captured through TARN and other appropriate audit and Clinical Governance mechanisms. The development of a culture of openness, learning and shared accountability and responsibility will be a key enabler to the effective working of the network and the consequent improvement in patient outcomes.
