About The Role
Our PHP developers contribute to improvements, new features and maintenance of our Symfony 4/5 based web applications.
Working as a member of our agile development team, new features are written using Object Oriented (OO) PHP/TypeScript, MySQL, HTML5 and JavaScript in an environment that encourages learning and the advancement of your technical skills as a developer.

Key responsibilities of this role will include:
- Build and maintain Wren’s custom built, cutting edge applications (Symfony 4/5 based)
- Write clean code that is clear and understandable by others
- Contribute to project estimations
- Contribute to all phases of the development lifecycle
- Work with senior developers, business stakeholders and wider development team to understand the initial scope for a new project
About You
- At least 2 years’ experience in creating and maintaining object oriented PHP7 or PHP8 based systems
- An understanding of the MVC approach to development
- Experience of working with MySQL (We use v8 currently)
- Demonstrable knowledge of web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Ajax
- Experience of using version control systems (such as Git) as part of a team
- A passion for adhering to coding standards and clean code
Desirable
- A working knowledge of the Symfony (or equivalent) framework
- A working knowledge of the Doctrine ORM
- Experience in creating and maintaining RESTFul APIs.
- Experience of working with:
- TypeScript
- React
- React Native
- MuleSoft or similar
- Experience of automated testing (e.g. Playwright, PHPUnit)
- Knowledge of design patterns, with practical experience of implementing them
- Experience of agile project methodologies (and its impact on iterative design)
- Experience of working in a continuous integration environment
- Familiar with Linux or Mac OS
- Has previously worked for a retailer / understands retail process
