A housing association is currently for a Tax Associate on a temporary basis for about 6 months.
Key responsibilities
Assist in managing VAT position in accordance with legal requirements and prepare the VAT Returns for the Group and subsidiary entities for submission to HMRC.
Assist in the periodic VAT journals are controlled and posted to the main accounting and tax systems (Sun and PX cube) on a timely basis and aligns to other tasks outlined on the timetable for the preparation of the monthly Management Accounts.
Assist in monitoring manual postings to VAT accounts.
Assist in reviewing the Group’s VAT Partial Exemption calculation and monitor Partial Exemption Special Method to ensure suitable recovery. This also applies to Capital Goods Scheme.
Assist in reconciliation of the VAT balance sheet accounts on a timely basis for Group and subsidiary entities.
Assist in liaising with the auditors to ensure a smooth year-end process.
Assist in providing tax technical answers to ad hoc queries as they arise; where appropriate, assist in liaising with external VAT advisors on issues of a complex status.
Assist in maintaining a professional working relationship with HMRC.
Where VAT errors are identified, work with the relevant teams to rectify, and prevent recurrence of similar errors. And where appropriate assist Tax Manager to work with external advisors to make voluntary disclosures to HMRC
Assist with Corporation Tax (CT) compliance and gathering of information for preparation of CT computation; training where necessary will be provided.
Assist in the preparation of Capital gain tax schedules.
Reporting
Assist in managing and delivering the Group’s tax reporting obligations and ensuring accurate and timely submission of VAT, Corporation Tax and other returns
Pays a daily rate of £204 PAYE or £268.17 Umbrella
Essential requirements
Minimum 3years indirect tax experience
Experience within a Housing association and/or real estate experience desirable
Tax knowledge of Partial Exemption Special Method (PESM) and Capital Goods Scheme (CGS)
Experience of liaising with HMRC and external advisors on varied and complex tax issues
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
A demonstrable commitment to customer service
Ability to consistently deliver high quality service within a pressurised environment.
Ability to use SMART objectives on delivery against targets and conflicting deadlines.
Able to work autonomously and under pressure
Experience of working in similar tax function would be an advantage
Effective IT skills including basic/intermediate/advanced MS Office skills
Working towards qualification in ATT/ ACCA/ACA/ CTA or equivalent (QBE)
Must be immediately available or on short notice
