Job Advertisement: Council Tax Officer - Initial 4-Month Contract

Contract Type: Initial 4-Month Contract (with the possibility of extension)

Start Date: 19/05/2024

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. 35 Hours Per Week.

Pay Rate: 20.59 per hour (PAYE)

Location: SE6 4RU

Position Overview:

To administer the billing, collection, and enforcement of Local and National Taxation and to carry out tasks relating to the administration of Council Tax.

Responsibilities:

• To maintain an up-to-date record of taxpayer accounts to ensure the prompt issue of accounts and arrears documentation thus maximizing cash flow.
• In a customer-focused role to be able to communicate with customers directly either by telephone, correspondence, or interview to give advice on matters of liability or to ascertain information to ensure accurate records and to promote customer care.
• To work with the Mid Kent Compliance team to undertake regular surveys of exemptions and discounts granted to prevent fraud and avoid monetary loss.

Qualifications:

• Must have experience working in a revenue environment
• Excellent Council Tax knowledge of council tax administration - billing, discounts & exemption and recovery
• Excellent communication skills Flexible experience in dealing with challenging customers - major call centre element
• Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in using tax software and MS Excel.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Knowledge of tax legislation and tax regulations is a must.
