Job description

Abbey College Cambridge is seeking an Art and Design teacher to join the Humanities Department from the academic year 2024/2025. The Humanities department at Abbey College Cambridge is made up of 6 teaching staff, and covers a range of subjects including History, Politics, Geography, English Literature and Art. We are also introducing Year 9 courses in Humanities from September 2024.

The Humanities department is a friendly and collaborative team from a range of backgrounds. The diversity of subjects, students and staff creates an open and engaging culture, built around mutual respect, humour and the sharing of best practice. The team meets regularly to discuss key elements of transferable teaching practice, student support and intervention. Differentiated resources and detailed schemes of work are available for all courses but individual teacher adaption is encouraged and welcomed. Internal assessments are scheduled across the year and support with the creation and marking of examples papers is available.

GCSE Art and Design at Abbey College Cambridge follows the AQA syllabus. The A Level course also follows the AQA syllabus with a focus on Fine Art. Art and Design students are given regular opportunities to take part in life drawing exercises as well as excursions to institutions such as the Curwen Print Study Centre. The college also runs its own Pre-Degree Diploma which aims to support students with applications to higher level study in the Art and Design field such as architecture and illustration.

We welcome visits to the college and any subject specific questions can be sent to the Head of Humanities at .
