The Department of Mechanical Engineering has an exciting opportunity for a highly dedicated, adaptable and self-motivated Technical Supervisor for our laboratories and workshops.
This is a Technical Supervisory position with responsibility for the day-to-day operation of a complete technical service for teaching and research activities in facilities employing 14 technicians. You will be covering complex laboratories, workshops and support services.
You will assist the Technical Manager in establishing best practice in the supervision of the technical specialists, senior technicians, trainees and apprentices across the facilities, including the forward planning and optimum utilisation of materials, equipment and technical resources. Your role will be to discharge these responsibilities in addition to maintaining your own core activities.
The facilities include aerospace (including a wind tunnel), composites manufacture and structural testing, student workshops (including lathes, mills), student ‘race teams’ (such as car, motorbike, rocket and drones teams) and biomechanics.

About you
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Served a recognised engineering apprenticeship
- A minimum of either an HNC, City & Guilds or equivalent in mechanical engineering or a related subject
- Proven experience of holding a supervisory position within a tool room, workshop or laboratory and research environment
