Ringway Jacobs are looking for an enthusiastic and talented highway maintenance technician to join the busy Maintenance and Operations team to assist with the implementation of the programmes of work within the service area in accordance with the strategies and policies of the County Council.
Reporting directly to the Senior Engineer the role involves assisting in providing a first-class service to our customers, delivering the planned maintenance works and services within the function and ensuring that the tasks of delivering the vision and priorities of the service are met.
The team are responsible for the investigation, design, planning, programming, and implementation and monitoring of maintenance works programmes, supporting and assisting with the co-ordination of a range of resources to deliver these objectives, utilising internal staff operatives and supply chain partners, consultants and other key stakeholders, maximizing opportunities to ensure value for money solutions. The post holder will be required on occasions to engage with Elected Members, District Councils, and strategic partners and other providers.

The Role
- To provide a first-class service to our customers, completing a high standard of maintenance to the highway network, helping to ensure that all maintenance activities are delivered in accordance with the strategies and policies of the County Council and Essex Highways.
- To undertake desktop studies, site visits and the preparation and design of work packs.
- To provide timely and accurate advice to elected members and the general public on all highway-related matters as required.
- Support Health and Safety, Environmental Management System, Quality Management System and Construction Design Management in a positive and constructive manner, with the aim of minimising work-related injuries by implementing Ringway Jacobs policies and procedures.
- To contribute to providing speedy and courteous responses to queries and complaints in accordance with relevant targets and standards.
- To provide support to the team in relation to all aspects covered within the works area of the group.
- To assist with the identification of future maintenance works.
- To use the business infrastructure system to create job packs.
- To aid with the collation of information to support expert witnesses at Crown Court, Public Enquiries and Hearings.
- To understand the overall functions, aims and directions of Essex Highways, and how their specific area of responsibility fits into those objectives.

Job Description
About You
- HNC, A-level education or equivalent qualification, or demonstrable experience in highways.
- Membership of or working towards a relevant Professional Institution is desirable including evidence of continuous professional development.
- Knowledge of Highway Legislation, relevant design procedures and standards.
- Knowledge of relevant engineering or service techniques and procedures including the use of specialist software tools as required.
- Demonstrable awareness of all environmental aspects and impacts and waste management.
- Appropriate knowledge and application of Health and Safety legislation including Construction Design & Management) Regulations.
- Conversant with Microsoft applications– Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
