At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.

We are professionals with purpose: beating cancer every day. But we need to go much further and much faster. That's why we're looking for someone talented, someone who wants to develop their skills, someone like you.

As a Product Manager, you will play an important role in helping us deliver the 'Sustain' and 'Translate' pillars of our organisational strategy. You will do this by ensuring our Centre for Drug Development (CDD) has the right digital tools to sustain and facilitate their lifesaving work, translating scientific research into new treatments for people with cancer.

In this role, you will be part of our technology Product team and a broader team supporting Cancer Research UK's CDD. CDD is the world's only charity-funded Drug Development facility with a portfolio spanning a range of leading cancer therapies, clinical trials, and biomarker technologies that rival medium-sized pharmaceutical companies while reflecting our unique strategy as a charity.

You will maintain and identify technology solutions that support CCD's innovative Drug Development projects (e.g. clinical trials, Stitch). This will involve collaborating with clinical and technology specialists to lead on new and existing supplier relationships while also evaluating and implementing digital solutions that meet the evolving needs of our clinical operations and are compliant with legislation and standards.

Your legacy at the end of this contract will be to directly improve CDD's employee and patient experience, efficiency, and commercial value, which will help bring forward the day everybody can lead longer and better lives free from cancer.

What will I be doing?

  • Defining, owning, and communicating the vision for the Centre for Drug Development (CDD)'s technology solutions and roadmap.
  • Managing CDD's digital products throughout their lifecycle (from early inception through to growth, maturity, and decline).
  • Partnering closely with Technology and CCD teams to ensure digital solutions meet their product requirements and Cancer Research UK's strategic objectives.
  • Representing CDD's customer needs while leading the collaboration between external suppliers, technology, and computer systems validation specialists to understand, define, evaluate, implement, and maintain product requirements and solutions.
  • Maximising product value by defining and agreeing on Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) based on user and business needs.
  • Maintaining an awareness of market trends and regulatory intelligence to identify new opportunities and ensure compliance (e.g. Good Clinical Practice and Computer Systems Validation standards).
  • Managing technology supplier relationships through regular service meetings and product reviews while tracking open tickets and the resolution of priority issues.
  • Tracking and managing product performance, costs, supplier contracts, and relationships while identifying opportunities to drive down costs and increase value.
  • Creating business cases for product implementation or development projects.
  • Collaborating with the Service Manager to ensure products have the necessary support process mechanisms to protect against performance issues.
  • Embracing and improving current Cancer Research UK legacy systems and processes with a view to either migrate, replace, or take out of service.
  • Being accountable for audit and inspection readiness for Technology Products within CDD.
  • Acting as a mentor or coach to more junior team members while contributing to the wider product capability and vision.

What skills will I need?

To be considered for this role, you must have the right to work in the UK, as we cannot offer visa sponsorship for this role.

  • Either an experienced clinical research professional, pharmaceutical professional, or Product Manager who has sourced or implemented technology solutions, change, and improvements within clinical environments.
  • Accurately documented changes with an awareness of legislation and standards relating to clinical research (e.g. Good Clinical Practice and Computer Systems Validation standards) and their impact on technology.
  • Previously worked with off-the-shelf technology to meet user needs while focusing on adoption and value.
  • History of building strong stakeholder and supplier relationships with the ability to communicate to non-technical stakeholders and influence at all levels.
  • Delivered user-centric change while managing and understanding the trade-off between short-term requirements and longer-term vision.
  • Available for a 12-month fixed-term contract.

What will I gain?

Each and every one of our employees contributes to our progress and is supporting our work to beat cancer. We think that's impressive.

In return, we make sure you are supported by a generous benefits package, a wide range of career and personal development opportunities and high-quality tools, policies and processes to enable you to do your job well.

Our benefits package includes a substantial retirement plan, a generous and flexible leave allowance, discounts on anything from travel to technology, gym membership, and much more.

We don't forget people have lives outside of work, too, and so we actively encourage a flexible working culture.

Our work - from funding cutting-edge research to developing public policy - will change the world. It's exciting to be part of our team.
