Doncaster Deaf Trust has been an established part of Doncaster for almost 200 years. We offer specialist education for children and young people with a range of communication needs, including Deafness, Neurodiversity and Learning Disabilities. We comprise of a nursery, school, children’s home, college, and adult services.
Our multi-disciplinary team (MDT) includes Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Audiology, Counselling, Nursing and a team of committed Teachers of the Deaf, Tutors and Support Staff who all work together to provide the best support for the children and young people in our care.
Our staff are offered excellent supervision and training opportunities, including BSL Qualifications up to at least Level 2.

The role
We are seeking an enthusiastic Therapy Assistant with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills to join our growing specialist team, supporting the work of the Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists, and potentially other specialisms such as Audiology & Physiotherapy. The post holder will work across the Trust in the nursery, school and college. The successful candidate will work under the direction and supervision of qualified therapists, following their guidance to produce resources, support assessments, and provide direct intervention with children and young people.
A large part of the role will be developing the use of AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication) systems across the college, which will include training and development opportunities for the successful candidate.
We are looking for an individual who is motivated, enthusiastic and flexible in all areas of their work. The ability to work well with all members of the multi-disciplinary team is essential. You will need to have excellent communication skills, have a positive attitude, be compassionate, and be able to work as part of a team.
Experience working with children and young people (especially those with additional needs) is highly desirable. Prior knowledge of deafness and BSL would be helpful, although not essential as training will be provided.
The successful candidate will have good basic English, Maths and Computing skills, and will have sufficient levels of fitness to undertake physical therapeutic activities with the children and young people. This will include activities that involve, for example, getting up and down from the floor to work with young children. (see job description for a full list of responsibilities)
