About the role:
Academia is seeking a trainee Management Accountant to join our dedicated and passionate finance team. This is a full time, permanent opportunity based at our headquarters in Hemel Hempstead.
The ideal candidate will be AAT qualified and has at least 2 years’ experience working in a finance function. This role is full time and candidates will be expected to spend a minimum of 3 days a week in the office.

You will be responsible for:
As a Trainee Management Accountant, you will be part of a growing finance team. You will be responsible for managing accounts and financial control for the business. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is looking to broaden their exposure within the AM environment with an aggressively growing environment. This role will report directly to the Financial Controller.
Some of the duties and responsibilities will include:
- Help ensure timely preparation of all accounts and other management accounting reports within agreed deadlines.
- Help ensure balance sheet reconciliations are complete and troubleshoot areas of concern, identifying and implementing corrective action.
- Develop and maintain a good working relationship with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Give any necessary advice on management accounting issues to ensure that the Financial Controller understands.
- Help to document detailed process and procedure manuals are in place and regularly updated.
- Work closely with the Financial Controller and senior accounting staff to ensure key issues are promptly highlighted and dealt with.
- Challenge current ways of working, driving change & efficiencies wherever possible and support process improvement projects.
- Ensure the highest standards of work are maintained.
Key Skills and Attributes:
- AAT Qualified Accountant.
- Ability to question transactions and the taxation and accounting rules that lie behind the numbers.
- Ability to recognise anomalies and take proactive action to rectify them.
- Take ownership of workload management and be accountable for personal deadlines and targets.
- Enthusiastic with a willingness to resolve issues and ensure technical accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to engage with staff at all levels.
- Ability to confidently deal with colleagues and develop strong relationships.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Accounting software and reporting tools.
