Job description

Do you enjoy problem-solving? Do you enjoy working both outside and in an office environment? Have you got a keen eye for detail and accuracy? If so, our Smart Network Technician role may be the ideal position for you.

What you'll do

The Smart Networks team installs, maintains and operates many Smart Network apparatus for the purpose of managing leakage and our distribution network. These are critical assets that enable us to monitor the supply network 24/7 and respond to changes in leakage rates at the earliest opportunity.

This is a varied and interesting role; you will be required to assist with essential work to maintain our large portfolio of loggers and apparatus that collect critical information, such as flow, pressure, acoustic, consumption and reservoir level data.

No two days are the same as your scheduled work will take you anywhere within the Wessex Water region which covers Bath, Salisbury, Poole, Bridgwater, and everywhere in between.

You will travel from site to site diagnosing and fixing faults with data loggers and meters. You may also be working in the office, using systems to identify asset failures, scheduling visits and producing reports. You must therefore be extremely thorough and well-organised.

What you'll need

A background in water supply and leakage and experience in flow and pressure data logging is preferred, but full training and certification will be provided.

In addition, you should have:

  • a Confined Spaces Certificate
  • NRSWA or equivalent streetworks signing, lighting and guarding
  • a Water Hygiene Certificate
  • good knowledge of Microsoft systems
  • a valid UK driving licence - a company vehicle will be provided.

What you'll receive

  • Total pension contributions up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to buy up to 10 days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary.
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • An interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone to work for us.
