Role Purpose:

Orion Electrotech are proud to be partnered with an ever growing manufacturing business. Specialising is Energy solutions for a number of different markets, the company is now on the hunt for an experienced Transformer Design Manager.  

The Transformer Design Manager will have overall ownership of all transformer-based technologies, ensuring compliance to global standards, technical specifications, shop floor designs, materials specification and the transformer build and testing process. The role will collaborate heavily with both manufacturing sites, ensuring that the overall quality of designs is consistent to the business's requirements across all of it’s sites and products/solutions.

The individual will work closely with the sales team, mechanical design and purchasing manager to accurately cost and plan the delivery of future orders. The individual will be expected to work autonomously and provide seamless interaction between Both Sheffield and Bromsgrove business sites on transformer integration within company projects. Providing electrical oversight and technical assistance to the manufacturing process and testing team. This person will be actively supporting their team to reach project targets, and personal targets and must split their time efficiently between doing and supporting internal staff.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• Overseeing the design team’s projects from concept to completion, ensuring the team are clear on workflow and priorities.
• Working with the sales team to support business development, support high level design for new markets/phase 1 high level designs for new markets/products/variants.
• Performance management of mechanical and electrical design engineering staff.
• Creation and maintenance/continuous improvement of the design process and how it fits into the internal and external sales.
• Ensuring that design document released to the public, internally or to the shop floor are done so through formal version control, that can be universally tracked by the business.
• Development of new products, as well as modify/creation of products to be fit for new markets.
• Supporting the test team ensuring that factory acceptance tests comply to the design limits.
• Ensuring compliance for global markets – include CE/UL and other appropriate harmonised standards.
• Design authority for all transformer technologies.
• Compilation and management of all O&M documentation for the product portfolio.

Person Specification:

Qualifications

Essential:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or appropriate alternative

Desirable:

Experience

Essential:

• Designing a wide range of transformer related products – reactors, LV, HV, mining, Amorphous, dry type, oil filled.
• Design from 50VA– 10MVA across the product range.
• Electrical systems and transformer manufacturing process
• Awareness of mechanical design impact to the client

Desirable:

• Design from OEM and client side preferable
• Excellent communication skills with senior reporting expected.
• Cross functional teamwork

Competencies

Essential:

• Knowledge Of Power Transformers and all related Uk standards
