About The Role
Ecotricity is a company with a vision to make Britain green. We’ve been named in The Times 2016 top ten most disruptive organisations.
Our entire business relies on digital channels but the truth is we're only getting started. We need developers who want to use their aptitude for building awesome products to help us reverse climate change and enable everyone to live sustainably.
You’ll be working at our offices in Stroud developing full stack solutions on a server-less microservices architecture and supporting our Symfony based CMS.
What you will do
As a Senior Full Stack Developer you will be highly technically skilled with a strong focus on Web development, micro-service architecture, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and expertise in core facets of software development.
As a key member of our Full Stack development team, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining innovative solutions while providing technical support and advice to ensure seamless integration across multiple systems.
You’ll be architecting and developing microservices that run in AWS using a wide variety of their products, this includes S3, RDS, Lambda, CloudFormation and API Gateway (to name a few).
Alongside working on our microservices, you’ll also be working on our sites which use a Symfony based CMS.
We love pairing and sharing our knowledge and experience, so you will spend some time working with other developers and planning some knowledge sharing workshops.
About You
We’re looking for developers who have familiarity with as much of our software stack as possible, this includes Node.js for micro-services (using the Server-less framework), various AWS services (such as API Gateway, Lambda, RDS and S3), and HTML / CSS (we use Sass, Webpack and Angular). We’re aware that every company uses different tooling, so if you’re not familiar with all the technologies we use, that’s okay. However, an understanding of the concepts and willingness to learn is a must.
All the code we write is well tested (often hitting 100% coverage!) – So you’ll need experience of a popular testing frameworks for Node.js
We plan and work using the Scrum framework, so we’d like you to have experience with Scrum or another Agile framework.
As a disruptive company wanting to make ‘Britain Green’, a passion for sustainability and environmental issues is a bonus.
We love to see the Github profiles of candidates (don’t worry, we’ve all got unfinished side-projects and non-production code on ours). If you have any cool projects or Open Source software in the wild, we’d love to hear about that too.

Ecotricity is Britain's greenest energy company. When we started back in 1995, we were the first company in the world to provide a new kind of electricity- the green kind.
Our mission was, and remains, to change the way energy is made and used in Britain- by replacing fossil fuels with clean, renewable energy.
We don't just supply green energy, we use the money from our customers' bills to make it ourselves too- we build windmills and sun parks in Britain. We call this 'bills in to mills'. In 2021, we started work on building two new solar parks, and now, in 2023, we're bringing geothermal energy to our customers' fuel mix, a first in the UK. We're also developing green gas mills which will generate 100% green gas from a source that we will never run out of- grass.
We don't just focus on energy though- we built Electric Highways, Britain's leading network of electric vehicle charging points, we helped Forest Green Rovers become the greenest football club in the world, and, in partnership with RSPB, we launched Britain's greenest mobile phone service, Ecotalk.
Ecotricity is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to providing equality for all.
