We have an exciting opportunity for a Community Engagement & Volunteer Co-Ordinator to join our team, based in London. You will be working on a full-time permanent basis (37.5 hours per week). In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £28,000-£31,000 per annum.

St Luke’s is an established and award-winning charity providing services, community events and projects in the vibrant Old Street area of south Islington.  At the heart of what we do is a large modern community centre that welcomes thousands of visitors each year.

The Community Engagement & Volunteer Co-Ordinator role:

As our Community Engagement & Volunteer Co-Ordinator, you will be responsible for raising awareness of the work of St Luke's. You will connect people and groups with local activities and services, identify and support new community-led initiatives that meet St Luke's strategic objectives to tackle disadvantage, improve wellbeing and build a sense of community. You will lead St Luke's volunteering programme to recruit, develop, support and retain a diverse team of local volunteers.

Responsibilities of our Community Engagement & Volunteer Co-Ordinator will include:

  • Support the development and implementation of a range of community outreach activities to engage with local residents, particularly targeting those who are experiencing disadvantage
  • In collaboration with the Community Engagement Manager consult with individuals and community groups to identify needs and gaps in local provision and work collaboratively in order to meet them
  • Help to raise awareness on issues relevant to the community and encourage individuals and groups to work together to make positive change
  • In collaboration with the Community Engagement Manager build and manage relationships with Community Partners to enhance the delivery and meet the needs of the community
  • Support the engagement and development of new peer support groups and social networks
  • Represent St Luke's on local groups and committees with a particular focus on community engagement, volunteering and development
  • Undertake regular and diverse recruitment activities and promotion to attract potential local residents and volunteers to the centre
  • Develop, implement and review policies and procedures which guide St Luke's volunteer programme and reflect our strategic objectives and values
  • Process volunteer applications, interview applicants assess their skills, experience and interest, take up references and ensure health, safety and safeguarding checks are in place
  • Set up and maintain volunteer details and records using databases as appropriate and ensure all systems comply with GDPR and data protection

Essential Skills, Experience & Abilities we are looking for in our ideal Community Engagement & Volunteer Co-Ordinator:

  • At least 3 years' experience working in a community setting leading user group activities and community engagement
  • Experience in managing, recruiting, training and supervising volunteers
  • An understanding of good practice in managing user groups and volunteers
  • Excellent organisational skills including attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
  • Experience in working collaboratively with internal and external partners to deliver a high-quality service
  • Understanding of how race, sex, age and other issues are relevant when providing support to users and in all dealings with staff, trustees, clients and other individuals
  • Ability to anticipate problems, design solutions, take initiative and be creative
  • Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships
  • Ability to work flexibly including weekends and evening work
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office
