Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical leadership and expert guidance in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients presenting to the emergency department with acute medical conditions, injuries, and trauma.
- Conduct comprehensive medical assessments, including history taking, physical examinations, diagnostic investigations, and treatment interventions, ensuring timely and appropriate care delivery.
- Supervise and support junior medical staff, including Specialty Trainees, Foundation Doctors, and Emergency Medicine Practitioners, in the delivery of patient care and professional development activities.
- Participate in the coordination of emergency medical services, including the triage of patients, allocation of resources, and management of patient flow within the emergency department.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members, including nurses, allied health professionals, paramedics, and support staff, to facilitate seamless patient care and transitions across the emergency care pathway.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical protocols, guidelines, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of emergency medical services and patient outcomes.
- Engage in ongoing professional development activities, including participation in training programs, clinical audits, and research projects, to maintain and enhance clinical competency and knowledge.
- Ensure compliance with relevant clinical governance, patient safety, and risk management standards, policies, and procedures within the emergency department.
Requirements:
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Emergency Medicine or equivalent qualification.
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (FRCEM) or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Emergency Medicine.
- Extensive experience working as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine, with a proven track record of clinical excellence and leadership in emergency care settings.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the assessment and management of a broad range of medical and surgical emergencies, trauma cases, and resuscitation procedures.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment and provide mentorship and support to junior colleagues.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality patient-centered care, promoting patient safety, and continuous improvement in emergency medical services.
