Job description

Public Programmes Manager

The Fitzwilliam Museum, University of Cambridge

Grade 8: £40,521 - £54,395

As the principal museum of the University of Cambridge and the largest cultural venue in the region, The Fitzwilliam Museum acts as a crucial bridge between the University, the City and the rest of the world, and has an international reputation for extraordinary research, world class exhibitions, award-winning Public Programmes and significant collections spanning many cultures and centuries. The Hamilton Kerr Institute (HKI) is a sub-department of the museum and is one of the world’s leading centres for teaching and research in paintings conservation and heritage science.

This exciting new role takes a lead on a dynamic programme of public events including talks, residencies, performances, workshops, courses and curated responses online and onsite, working with colleagues to help shape the programme for the future inspired by the Fitzwilliam collections and research.

The post holder has responsibility for identifying audiences, partners and collaborators locally, nationally and internationally, ensuring activity promotes collaboration and access, and innovative programming that supports our research, knowledge and teaching. Through establishing and overseeing the management of a range of creative learning spaces and forums with audiences, partners and colleagues, a key responsibility for this post is bringing public engagement and research together to foster new relationships, strategic alliances, and collaborations aimed at deepening and broadening our impact and engagement with a diverse range of audiences. The Public Programmes Manager will also play a key role in developing a paid for/ticketed public programme as part of the Museum’s evolving income strategy.

The post holder will be highly creative, with experience of project management, programme design and delivery, audience engagement and a collaborative attitude. They will be adept at working with a team and be passionate and knowledgeable about and committed to the Museum’s core values of anti-racism, diversity and inclusion.

In return we offer an encouraging and supportive environment, generous holiday allowance, an attractive pension scheme and many employee benefits such as a shopping discounts scheme.
