The purpose of the Shop Manager role is:
1. Nurture the potential of the shop as a community hub, increasing the number of people who consider themselves part of the community.
2. Promote awareness of the farm activities and its benefits to the community.
3. Generate profit to benefit the general farm activities.
Responsibilities:
· Manage the Farm Shop so that it maximises potential to provide a reliable source of income for the farm.
· Manage the shop staff team including shop assistant, food production specialist and any volunteers. This may also include work experience placements.
· Customer Service: serving drinks, selling produce and up-selling to a high standard.
· Maintaining a safe and hygienic environment in the shop to ensure practices and hygiene standards are in line with local and national guidelines.
· Stock Control: ordering, rotating, presenting stock and keeping an accurate inventory.
· Product development - liaise with producers to choose new products to enhance our offering, setting prices to balance benefit to customers with our need to make a profit.
· Labelling produce accurately to enhance the customer experience and comply with trading standards.
· Use of till software to track sales and cashing up. Plotting and spotting trends in sales data and producing reports for stakeholders.
· Plan and undertake special events working with the whole farm team, i.e. Harvest Festival, Festive farm etc.
· Train volunteers/staff with the necessary skills to support your role and deliver a high standard of service to our customers.
· Responsibility for health and safety within the Shop ensuring that all staff work in a safe, healthy and supportive environment.
Grow our local customer base through appropriate means, increasing awareness of the general farm activities.
Experience:
- Personable and welcoming, setting the tone for the Farm Shop as a community hub.
- Previous experience in retail.
- A numbers person - capable and keen to maintain forecasts, budgets, sales figures, stock levels and sales margins. Proficient in spreadsheets and other office software.
- An organised person - able to train and enthuse the shop team to carry out their duties consistently and with the ethos of the farm.
- Committed to ethical trade, healthy food and sustainable living.
- Creative - optimistically responding to challenges and looking for alternative ways to do things.
- A team player - punctual, reliable, good at listening to others and seeing their perspective.
- Has valid driver's license and own transport.
