Short Description of Vacancy
- To support and complement the work of teachers.
- To work with classes, providing appropriate support for individual pupils or support groups of pupils of any ability and in any curriculum area.
- To work effectively as part of the teaching support team and with teaching staff in contributing to the quality of teaching and learning.
Required for: 11th March 2024.
Salary details: £5.28 per hour
Contract type: Apprenticeship
Hours: 32.5 hours per week. Monday-Friday – 5 days. 8.30-3.30 ½ hour unpaid lunch break
Term Time only
Closing date: Monday 19th February 2024 at 1pm.

About the role
Classroom Preparation
1 To prepare classroom and associated areas for use, includes preparing materials, and setting out equipment, apparatus. Clean and put away materials, equipment, apparatus after use. Tidy classroom and associated areas.
2 To make up and maintain work/topic cards/sheets/books and other teaching aids. Prepare work and notices for display purposes. Assist with/arrange displays and tables.
3 To respond to individual needs by personalising resources for an individual or group.
Administration, Planning and Organisation
1 Planning, with a teacher, specific strategies and targets for improvement, e.g. assist in the compilation, implementation and review of SEN Support Plans (SSPs).
2. To discuss, and follow, the teacher’s programme/plan for the lesson/day/week/term, and adapt where necessary.
3 To assist with the general management and organisation of children and resources/equipment which relate to the support of children.
4 To assist with the planning, organising and supervising of educational visits and outings.
5 To assist in administrative tasks including collecting and recording money from children, bulk photocopying, filing, collating school reports.
6 Be familiar with a range of resources suitable for individual or small group needs, and to use them to ensure pupil motivation.
7 Arrive in class, on or before the start of the lesson, and to begin and end any withdrawal sessions on time.
Working with Children
1 To work with and support a specific individual and other individuals or groups of children on specific activities set by the teacher, such as reading, writing, practical, creative, physical, recreational activities and environmental studies.
2 To assist with the supervision of the named child and when appropriate other children:
- within classroom settings
- during school assembly
- at play/meal times
- on outings and educational visits
- using the cloakroom/toilets/washrooms
- changing before and after recreational activities
- not participating in an activity.
3 To support the teacher in behaviour management and reinforcing agreed rules in working with pupils.
4 Assist in the promotion of development and learning (physical, emotional and behavioural).
5 Work to develop inclusion of all pupils within a lesson. This may be done by encouraging pupils to work collaboratively, by ensuring equitable access to resources or by further developing the use of ICT in lessons.
6 Be familiar with a range of teaching resources and strategies suitable for the needs of individuals or small groups and to use them effectively.
7 Assist pupils with practical work.
8 To constructively help the named child and other children to participate in activities by adapting and/or interpreting lessons and instructions accordingly.
11 Guide and assist the development of the named child and other children’s social behaviour, attitudes and skills as appropriate.
12 To assist, as directed, with the implementation of specific learning, behavioural modification, therapy programmes.
13 To cover a class during PPA time with planned support from class teacher.
14 To cover for a teacher who is absent or unavailable, as appropriate.
15 Take appropriate action related to any problems or emergencies that occur during the lesson in accordance with the School’s policies and procedures.

About you
Future Prospects description
With experience, you may take a course to become a higher level teaching assistant (HLTA). With further study, a fully qualified teacher.
