Job description

Post Ref: CC827
We are currently recruiting:
A passionate and proactive Apprentice Social Care Advisor to work within The Gateway to Care Team at Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council.

“We are the first point of contact, providing help and advice. We deliver with compassion, empathy and kindness, to enable people to live their best life.”

One of the most crucial elements of any Adult Social Care department is getting the first connection right for the people we are here to serve. This is because, for many people, reaching out to us for help, advice and support, can be a difficult and major step in their life.

The role of the Apprentice Social Care Advisor is to listen hard to what people are telling us, focussing deeply on what they have reached out to us for, and come to understand the person’s wishes and feelings with regards to what really matters in terms of what a good life looks like to them.

You will utilise your skills and knowledge to draw on the person’s strengths, informal networks, and community assets to meet their requirements and aspirations.

Responding promptly to people, supporting their independence, working hard to bring about stability and ensuring people maintain control of their life and remain connected to their community is what you will do best.

As a busy and thriving service, you will be all systems go, responding to people at the time they need us, working with them to live a better life. The work is both challenging and rewarding, where no two days are ever the same.

What we are looking for:
Ability to relate to people Your role as a Apprentice Social Care Advisor is to have direct contact with people over the telephone. To join our existing team you will have an expert ability to quickly develop a trusting relationship with people, utilising a kind, empathetic and friendly approach while working towards a Level 3 Diploma in Customer Service.

Resourcefulness and creativity You will recognise that formal services are not always solutions. You will need to be useful, resourceful and creative when it comes to drawing on the strengths of our people, as well as your knowledge of the community assets available to problem solve and meet their requirements. You will need to be confident to challenge the status quo or preconceived ideas to enable this happen.

Adult Social Care Knowledge The type of person who will do well in this role will have some experience and knowledge of adult Social Care. You may have direct lived or living experience of adult Social Care yourself, or maybe involved or close to someone who has. You may be a care worker or in a similar role and looking for your next career move. Whoever you are and whatever your experience is, it will provide you with a sound platform to build upon to fulfil the role of a Apprentice Social Care Advisor and we would love to hear from you.

Values driven – We want an apprentice whose values mirror our own and treat our people with the respect they deserve. Our service recognises that people are experts in their own lives and are required to challenge the circumstances and environments that marginalise, exclude or oppress. We need an apprentice who respects the dignity and diversity of the people we are here for.

Our service is responsible for making sure our people live as independently as possible for as long as possible. We take a proportionate approach and involve ourselves in people's lives in the least intrusive way possible and always in their best interests.

Why join us:
We are a friendly and supportive team – If you value being part of a core team then this is the job for you. The success of our work is down to our excellent team working. You will be joining some of the best and most experienced Social Care Advisors in the business, who will be on hand to support your career move to us. Your practice will also be supported by a team comprised of a range of experienced health and Social Care professionals with various specialist backgrounds, each bringing something unique to the team. Management and leadership support is pretty much on tap to help you work through some of the more challenging aspects of the work.

Opportunities for Personal and Service Development – As an Apprentice Social Care Advisor this may be career progression for you, however the onward possibilities are endless. You will work towards a Level 3 Customer Service Diploma as part of your apprenticeship. As an organisation we will support you with monthly supervision as well as quarterly ‘shared conversations’, to focus in on your performance, your progress, development, and future career aspirations. We offer a number of developmental training opportunities and trainee ‘on the job’ apprenticeships. As we move forward to develop and improve our service utilising a conversational approach you will have the opportunity to innovatively contribute and implement your ideas to our service development.

Rewarding job and able to make a difference – Whilst we recognise that we do have areas for improvement and continuous improvement is a vital aspect of our service, on the whole we enjoy an excellent reputation. Our team receive many compliments on a daily basis which is testament to the difference they make to the lives of the people who reach out to us for support.

A plethora of other benefits – Including generous and progressive annual leave allowance, discounted leisure centre membership, discounted public transport, tax free bikes, salary sacrifice car scheme, credit union, discounted theatre tickets, free legal and financial advice, plus many other discounts through our partnerships with local businesses.
