As the geographically largest Ambulance Service in the UK, our 8000 staff and volunteers serve a population of more than 7.5 million people across Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire and part of Derbyshire. Each year we receive approximately 1.7 million 999 calls, respond to over 1 million emergency incidents and make more than 1.3 million patient transport journeys for those who require non-emergency transport to and from healthcare appointments. We also deliver the NHS 111 service across the region for people who need medical help or advice, handling around 3.6 million calls every year.

As one of three Area Directors and a senior leader within the Trust, you will play a critical role in planning and delivering high-quality, cost-effective emergency and non emergency transport services and will have accountability for the strategic portfolio for urgent, emergency and planned care across Greater Manchester. You will lead with compassion, ensuring all staff are equipped to thrive, while effectively managing resources to meet local and national targets, alongside balancing budgets whilst continually driving improvements.
Working with the executive team, you will be a key representative of the Trust across the local Health and Care System, engaging strategically across various levels and initiatives whilst fostering collaboration for innovative solutions. Working alongside the Strategy, Partnerships, and Transformation team, your role will be pivotal in fostering engagement that aligns with the Trust's strategic goals and priorities.
You will have significant operational leadership experience and knowledge of leading a range of complex services, gained from either within the health sector or in another relevant industry. We are seeking a compassionate and inclusive leader proficient in developing, leading, inspiring, motivating, and managing a diverse, multi-professional team. You will excel in an environment where prioritising and managing multiple competing tasks and deadlines is the norm.
North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.
Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.
Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.
We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
