Background
The energy industry is undergoing unprecedented change. We are moving away from a simple but carbon-intensive model of delivering electricity generated by large coal and gas-fired power stations, to a much more dynamic and complex network with large volumes of distributed energy resources (DERs) connected at distribution level.
Globally, we face an increasing climate change challenge; greenhouse gas emissions are driving up temperatures, increasing the intensity of extreme weather events and changing our physical environment. These changes put the reliable supply of electricity to our customers at risk by reducing or disrupting network and operational performance. Impacts can already be seen today as the risk of flooding to our substations becomes a greater threat with increased rainfall during the winter months and extreme storm events during the summer. As a result, we need to protect our assets whilst enabling the transition to Net Zero to prevent the worsening of these climate change hazards.
These fundamental changes are challenging both how we maintain and operate our network today, and creating opportunities for us to do so more efficiently in the future.
Job Purpose
You will work within the Asset Management Directorate and report to the Civil Asset Strategy Manager. You will work as part of a diverse team, informing asset and network plans that will place UK Power Networks as the best performing DNO group on safety, customer service and efficiency. The Asset Management function develops investment plans and programmes to improve the performance and maintain the condition of a regulated asset base of 5billion with a MEAV of 28 billion serving 8 million customers through a network of 138,000km of underground cable, 46,000km of overhead lines and 120,000 substations.
The Asset Strategy team develop, implement, and oversee the delivery of asset replacement strategies and plans that ensure that our network is operated safely and securely whilst offering value to customers and shareholders.
You will ensure that UK Power Networks continues to maintain compliance, delivers the regulatory challenges of ED2 and prepares for ED3 and beyond, with regards to activities related to environmental protection and assets.
