Location
: Bristol, UK 4 to 5 days a week in the office

Assistant Accountant

As an Assistant Accountant at Vaarst, you will join a finance team of 5 and will play a key role in managing the day-to-day accounting operations, offering support to the Finance Assistant and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. To be successful you'll need to be full or part qualified, highly organised and motivated to contribute to the financial success

In addition, this is an incredible opportunity to help further the transition to renewable energy.

bjectives & Responsibilities

Vaarst is an exciting and dynamic environment meaning these are likely to change as we grow, upon joining your objectives and responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the accounting team, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll functions
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of financial transactions, including processing invoices, preparing bank reconciliations, and managing cash flow
  • Lead the month end process including prepayments, accruals and balance sheet controls
  • Offering support/mentoring to Finance Assistant
  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and company policies
  • Collaborate with other departments to gather financial information, implement change and resolve issues
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports, VAT returns, and audits
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline financial operations and enhance efficiency


You should apply if you have

  • Part qualified ACCA / CIMA / ICAEW / ICAS or equivalent
  • Proven experience in accounting or finance, with good knowledge of accounting principles
  • Proficient in using accounting software (we use Xero) and MS Office applications, with advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail
  • Organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to take ownership and see a task through to completion
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

  • Team Interview: Engage in a 1.5-hour interview with a few team members. Experience the role firsthand and share your skills and experience. We'll discuss our technologies, key skills, and team dynamics. As always, feel free to ask any questions you may have.
  • CFO Conversation: Meet with our CFO for a 30-minute discussion. This is your opportunity to express your thoughts on the role and ask any final questions. We'll clarify expectations and ensure this role aligns with your aspirations.
