A respected and well established manufacturing company in Nelson are seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant with payroll experience to join their team on a permanent and full-time basis.
Your new role
In your new role as Assistant Accountant, you will be supporting the finance team with the weekly payroll alongside general accounts. You will be responsible for processing the payroll for 150 weekly paid employees, manually calculating holiday pay, SMP, SSP and shift allowances. You will be responsible for pension calculations and be expected to produce reports for management, whilst working closely with their external payroll provider on changes including new starters, salary changes and any other changes impacting payroll.
You will be responsible for cashbook processing & reconciliation, production & input of month-end journals including holiday pay, pensions, wages & salaries, cash book, petty cash. You will have knowledge of accruals, prepayments and depreciation and support the wider finance team when required with tasks within Purchase Ledger and Sales Ledger and general month end duties. Your role will involve you recording payrolls into the general ledger, including payroll reconciliation and payroll journals such as pensions, wages, cashbook and petty cash.
This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday. This role is fully office based, however, they do offer an early finish on Fridays.
What you'll need to succeed
Experience of working in a payroll position previously is essential, with a good understanding of the end-to-end process. You will have a good knowledge of transactional accounts, including purchase and sales ledger and be happy to work in a role combining both of these. You will have commenced your AAT studies, completing at least level 2 and demonstrate a good understanding of accounting principles. You will be flexible at picking up new systems and have experience working on Excel.
