Lead the delivery of high-quality regulation for construction products placed on the UK market
The challenge
Regulation is a powerful Government tool to address market failures, influence behaviour and promote positive action. Crafted and delivered well, regulation can be an enabler of growth, innovation and efficiency. Here at the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), our goal is to be a trusted regulator for the UK.
Since 2021, we have been leading and coordinating work that will set a new regulatory approach for construction products. We are driving the improvement of safety and performance standards. Together we’ll work towards a regulatory environment in which businesses have the confidence to invest and grow whilst ensuring that consumers and the environment are protected.
About the role
Your expertise will be central to setting and establishing OPSS’ approach to compliance with construction product regulations and ultimately the establishment of a new National Regulator for Construction Products. You will ensure we deliver the integration agenda by encouraging collaboration across the team and directorate. At the same time, you will coordinate resources and people to deliver maximum benefits and value for money. Promoting technical and legislative expertise, as well as an understanding of commercial compliance standards, you will ensure our processes reflect all governance policies, reporting requirements and agreed best practice.
About you
Success depends on strong leadership skills and the ability to foster positive working relationships with a broad range of colleagues and external partners. The ability to challenge as well as influence others is important. You’re likely to have experience of successfully deploying tailored interventions to resolve challenges in a sophisticated regulatory environment and will be ready to develop and lead strategic operational and project plans. Flexible yet resilient, you’ll be capable of navigating uncertainty with resilience and solving a wide range of problems.
Benefits
We offer a range of benefits including a generous leave allowance, flexible working options, learning and development tailored to your role, and a Civil Service pension.
