BAM Ventures UK is recruiting an Assistant HR Business Partner to support the BAM FM Business.
The role will be based from our office in Bristol with a requirement to also cover responsibilities in the Western, Midlands and Southern operational regions for BAM FM.
This is a full time role with mix of office, site and home hybrid working, but regular travel to be expected. A driving license is desirable.
Reporting to the HR Business Partner/HR Director for the Segment the Assistant HRBP will play a key role in supporting the delivery and implementation of the Segment People Strategy which also supports both the divisional and Segment purpose, vision, mission and overall objectives.
The Assistant HRBP alongside the HRBP will partner the operational teams within the business unit whilst working collaboratively with the wider People team to inform and then in turn drive delivery of key areas of focus with the CoE’s and wider People function.
To provide guidance and support to help to shape positive change, supporting the delivery of people-based solutions, as well as challenging and focusing on adaptive people practices which are aligned to the wider People strategy.

- Advise and support on all HR matters including performance management, employee relations, absence management and organisation design.
- Provide advice and support to employees and managers during change, anticipate barriers and obstacles and working to remove them.
- Support key negotiations with trade unions, works councils and employee forums, on a range of employee relations issues.
- Supporting managers with recruitment, succession, retention, early career and high potential development designed to improve diversity and business performance.
- Support and advise on the governance of people related policy and process
- Act as a partner to the business unit operational teams, working collaboratively with managers to deliver HR initiatives within their business area to support the delivery of the Segment and business unit strategy, plans and objectives.
- Coach managers to help to build a culture aligned to our values and associated behaviours, which are also focussed on trust, respect and fairness, support diversity and inclusion, wellbeing and employee engagement.
- Working closely with People Services and the CoE’s day-to-day to deliver an effective and efficient HR service to the business including supporting the embedding of initiatives, processes and procedures.
- In collaboration with the People Services team, use data and analytics to measure the effectiveness of policies, procedures and strategy.
- Continuously drive improvements in systems, policies and procedures through external market trends, insight and internal best practice.
- With other members of the management and People team to cultivate the environment of BAM being a ‘great place to work.’
- Provide guidance and support to managers on the planning, implementation and administration of training plans, actively encouraging a culture of learning and development, including working with managers to effectively drive the Perform and Develop process.
- Keep up to date with external HR and industry trends and best practise.
Key activities
- Work closely with the HR Director [HR Lead] and HRBP as appropriate within the Segment to implement the Segment People strategy and plan, supporting the UK&I People strategy.
- Work closely with the management team within the business unit to deliver the People strategy.
- Implementation, monitoring and reporting against performance metrics enabling sound decision making within the business unit and contribute to consistent decision making within the Segment.
- Promoting the capture of best practice and knowledge sharing.
- Participate in People based project work within the Segment and wider UK&I function.
- A operational HR professional and previous experience in operating as an HR advisor or developing capability in this area and can demonstrate delivering and supporting the development of people-based solutions. Ideally you will have previous experience in supporting organisational change and employee relations exposure.
- A passion for all people related topics and will have demonstrable experience of applying policies, procedures and employment legislation, as well as supporting the development of policies and procedures and HR related projects.
- Effective communication and influencing skills and will develop relationships with ease to enable you to influence.
- Competent user of Excel and other business tools.
- You will have committed to your own personal development and will either be or seeking to become CIPD qualified, hold an alternative relevant professional qualification, or be working towards this.
- Supports and is an advocate of the business and People strategy and ensures outcomes are relevant to these.

- Co-ownership - making an active contribution to achieving a joint result or solution, even where concessions may have to be accepted to reach agreement.
