Job description

Assistant to Director - Up to £63,517, 27.9% pension, hybrid working, flexible hours and lots more…

DWP. Digital with Purpose.

DWP is the UK's biggest government department. 110,000 colleagues deliver services and support to over 25 million people every day, and we make payment worth over £195bn a year.

Our expert DWP Digital community is transforming those products and services using the best tech, tooling and innovative thinking. We're making government services simpler and easier to access and cheaper to run and making DWP work better.

It's a generational digital transformation that is attracting the best tech talent to DWP. Our teams work in a unique context, driven by an extraordinary purpose, and on an epic scale.

And we'd love you to join us.

We have an opportunity for two Lead Directors Support Managers with excellent organisational and communication skills to join our teams.

We have one role in Health and Working Age - where we work to remove barriers to employment for people with health conditions. And one role in Shared Channels Experience - where we're improving how people communicate with DWP.

For both roles you will need great stakeholder management skills and experience supporting leaders, directors or executives.

You will manage the Director's Office for your area and lead a team of support colleagues to provide an efficient, consistent service across to our Senior Leadership Team.

You'll build up your knowledge of what we do, and how we work. That will help you to plan and prioritise on behalf of the Director, and manage their flow of work

You will be our primary point of contact for the Directors business, reviewing/triaging all issues.

Should you deal with a request yourself, seek advice, set up a meeting, or delegate to another team member? You'll use your knowledge of the team and experience in roles like this to pick the best next step.

You will provide detailed advice to the Director and take responsibility for directly managing matters. You'll develop briefings, co-ordinate forums, manage schedules and plans.

Our directors and leaders are really busy and in-demand, and you make sure they are working on the right stuff and the right times.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of quickly understanding the environment and strategic agenda in order to effectively identify and prioritise the most important tasks. (Lead Criteria)
  • Experience of leading the process and delivery within a complexed environment.
  • Experience of building relationships and influencing senior stakeholders, managing those relationships effectively.
  • Experience of managing conflicting demands and priorities whilst working in a high profile, fast paced environment.
  • Ability to use different communication methods (including SharePoint, MS Teams, OneNote), recognising the benefits, including ensuring cost effectiveness.

Details. Wages. Perks.

You'll join us in either our Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield Digital hubs.

We also have all the tools and tech we need to enable our people to work flexibly, and we work a hybrid model with room for some home working.

In return for your skills, we offer competitive pay of up to £63,517.

You'll be eligible for a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 27.1%.

You'll also have a generous leave package starting at 26 days, plus all the usual bank holidays, and the option to take extra days off on flexi leave.

We also have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:

  • Flexible working, flexi hours and flexi days
  • Hybrid working: some time in a hub with the team, some time at home
  • Family-friendly policies
  • Time off volunteering and charitable giving
  • Bring your authentic self to work with 'I Can Be Me in DWP'
  • Discounts and savings on shopping, fun days out and more
  • Interest-free loans to buy a bike or a season ticket, so it's even easier for you to get to work and start making a difference
  • Sports and social activities
  • Working in an award-winning environment and culture
  • Professional development, coaching, mentoring and career progression opportunities.
