JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
To assist the qualified nursing staff, under their supervision, in providing a high quality, comprehensive and compassionate nursing service to all patients and users, ensuring a high standard of patient care is maintained in a clean and safe environment which promotes dignity, privacy and respect.
Under appropriate supervision (direct or indirect), the post-holder will assist in the delivery of care planned and assessed by the Registered Nurse, including providing clinical care and performing a range of diagnostic tests and other extended skills.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Undertake patient health checks
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately, carry out ECGs as requested.
- Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly.
- Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required.
- Undertake venipuncture & canulation
- Administer vaccinations such as flu, pneumonia.
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequetly stocked and prepared for each session.
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships within a multi-disciplinary team.

- After appropriate training and competency assessment, the postholder will be expected to perform area specific clinical competencies in line with core standards under the direction of a registered professional.
- Assist with patient assessment such as taking and recording physiological observations reporting immediately any changes in the patients condition to a registered professional.
- To assist in treatment/activities for the patient which may involve accompanying/escorting patients outside the ward environment.
- Ability to access computerised records to retrieve personal information, locate and trace medical notes, order bloods etc.
- Contribute to clear concise patient records and documentation adhering to national standards and trust policies and procedures.
- Contribute to a safe and clean working environment and ensure the clinical area is prepared and maintained as appropriate and in line with the Trust Infection Prevention and Health and Safety Policies.
- To assist with the monitoring of equipment and stock as required.
- Act in a manner which illustrates respect for privacy, dignity, equality & diversity and confidentiality, and demonstrate excellent customer care.
- Ability to undertake appropriate training for required clinical activities, according to workplace area.
- Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the role, and participate in training activities.
- Ensure all mandatory training is undertaken in line with Trust policy.
- The post holder will be expected to undertake shift work and work a range of shifts including bank holidays, nights and weekends.
