Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7Senior Falls Clinical Nurse Specialist. The post holder will line manage a small team of staff, providing an expert and professional falls service to staff and inpatients across the organisation. They will be a dynamic, caring and enthusiastic, highly motivated individual with experience of working in falls prevention and management across organisational boundaries. The falls team have an office base at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Heartlands hospital however the post holder will need to demonstrate a flexible approach to working across all hospital sites as required. The post requires a high level of communication and engagement with other key stakeholder groups to successfully provide an effective and efficient falls service, therefore the post holder will need to demonstrate a positive, open and inclusive approach to team working.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The post holder will be passionate about ensuring clinical teams are well supported by acting as an expert resource on falls prevention and management to staff, patients and their families/carers. The post holder will demonstrate a 'can do' attitude, show commitment to driving quality improvements across a wide and varied organisation, and practice new and innovative ways of working to improve practice and performance regarding falls prevention and post fall management. The role requires a high level of skill in attention to detail and report writing when reviewing incidents and will entail working closely with the legal and Governance teams on investigations and Inquests.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse on the NMC Register.
  • BSC / First degree (health related) or equivalent qualification / training or experience.
  • Professional knowledge acquired at degree level supplemented by specialist training, experience and short courses to degree / masters level equivalent.
  • Recognised teaching course

Desirable

  • Post registration qualification in (appropriate area of speciality)

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC.
  • Significant post registration experience at Band 6 or above
  • Evidence of ability to professionally lead / manage a team of staff.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the management responsibility for pay and non-pay resources associated with a clinical service.
  • Evidence of delivering change management both personally and as a facilitator.
  • Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/ competence.
  • Demonstrate specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality.
  • Experience of developing educational programmes and teaching / assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting.
  • Patient / user involvement and advocacy role
  • Experience in service development
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment
  • Can demonstrate expert nursing knowledge with an ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients and give advice and information to patients / relatives/ care staff.
  • Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context relating to the speciality

Desirable

  • Awareness of current research related to the speciality.
  • Knowledge of corporate and clinical governance

Additional Criteria

  • Ability to balance clinical caseload and managing a team.
  • Demonstrate achievement of numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of health care professionals, on a variety of complex and sensitive issues which require persuasive and empathetic skills.

  • Evidence of flexible and innovative approach to service delivery and development
  • Ability to work a varied shift pattern where required.
  • Ability to act on own initiative.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work between the different hospital sites.

  • Evidence of ability to compile reports and documents for internal / external communication.
  • Ability to articulate and evidence workforce requirements for the service using a systematic approach / methodology and evidence base where this is available
