As a Bank Support Worker at our supported accommodation service for young people aged 16 to 18, you will play a vital role in providing practical and emotional support to residents to help them develop essential life skills, achieve their goals, and transition into independent living.
Responsibilities:
- Support:
- Provide one-to-one support to young people in areas such as budgeting, cooking, cleaning, and personal hygiene.
- Assist residents in setting and working towards achievable goals related to education, employment, and personal development.
- Offer emotional support and guidance to help residents navigate challenges and build resilience.
- Daily Living Skills:
- Teach basic life skills such as meal planning, grocery shopping, and household chores to promote independence.
- Support residents in maintaining a clean and organized living environment.
- Encourage healthy lifestyle choices and promote self-care practices.
- Crisis Intervention:
- Respond effectively to crisis situations, including conflicts between residents, mental health crises, or emergencies.
- Follow established protocols for reporting incidents and escalating concerns to the appropriate authorities or senior staff members.
- Advocacy and Liaison:
- Advocate on behalf of residents to ensure their voices are heard and their rights are respected.
- Collaborate with external agencies, including social services, schools, and healthcare providers, to coordinate comprehensive support plans for residents.
- Maintain accurate records of interactions, progress, and any significant incidents in resident files.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with other staff members to create a supportive and inclusive atmosphere within the accommodation service.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and training sessions to enhance professional development and service delivery.
Requirements:
- Experience working with young people, preferably in a support or care setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with residents.
- Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude towards diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to crisis situations.
- Basic administrative skills, including record-keeping and report writing.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable individuals.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, as required.
- Clear Enhanced DBS
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional training or qualifications in youth work, social care, or a related field are desirable.
Note: This is a bank position, meaning hours of work may vary and are typically offered on an ad-hoc basis to cover staff absences or peak demand periods.
