Benefit Operations Pension Support Officer

Salary - £33,945 - £38,223 (Grade 6)

Hours - 37 hours per week

Contract type - full time, permanent post

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Benefit Operation Pension Support Officer within the fund’s Operations team who will be responsible for the consistency and quality of the casework processed by the Benefit Operations teams.

The Fund is one of the UK’s largest pension funds providing, from it’s ‘state of the art’ new building at i9 in Wolverhampton, local authority pension benefits for employees across the West Midlands. The Fund manages and administers the pension interests of over 330,000 scheme members, 800+ employers and currently has over £20 billion in assets under management.

Responsibilities will include:

  • To deal with all complex individual member benefit queries and calculations raised by the teams. Provide day-to-day support on how the regulations apply in individual complex cases identifying solutions through research and experience of the regulations and system, working closely, if required, with the Technical team where process or system changes are required. Development and maintenance of a technical log, providing a database of these complex cases and responses to help future management of similar cases. 
  • Develop and maintain a technical understanding of the operational processes and procedures, with the ability to problem solve and provide solutions on a risk management basis, ensuring effective dissemination and communication to all key stakeholders as required.
  • Co-ordinate and manage the training of new and existing staff and the management and implementation of an annual programme of training for Benefit Operations staff, liaising with external providers and the internal workforce development team as required.

The ideal candidate will be a highly organised, flexible and have significant pensions knowledge. They will have excellent communications skills and have the ability to demonstrate outstanding customer service.

Our working arrangements

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empowers employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance.  Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location.  Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocation where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location.  Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
