Job description

Job Purpose 

The primary objective of this role is to craft compelling bids that articulate how our values are our culture and that our reason for existing is to support more people to achieve life changing outcomes. 

Through winning competitive bids this role will increase win rates to secure new business opportunities through various procurement routes. 

All bid submissions will be for current and new geographies and require an intellectual approach to articulating content from our subject matter experts to extract an evidential foundation. 

Working in a highly competitive, results driven culture the role holder will work to all deadlines, achieve annual targets set, whilst also contributing to the wider organisational objectives. 

 Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities 

  • To hold overall responsibility and accountability for bid quality – The role holder will have an exemplary standard of writing and will lead on all technical bid content with a flair for working alongside subject matter experts. 
  • The role will act as a trusted mentor to colleagues who may require support to sharpen their bid question responses. 
  • Ensure all bids are evidence based by conducting research to improve bid content that is tailored to and customer specific for each individual tender opportunity. 
  • Review all bid submissions for quality and accuracy amending where necessary. 
  • Adhere to the compliant, and timely execution of tender activity in accordance with procurement regulations, standards, recognised industry best practice and AFG’s strategy. 
  • Conduct thorough research on potential competitors, and industry trends to inform bid strategies and content. 
  • Maintain and grow the current win rate of bids and tenders. 
  • In collaboration with the marketing team create a range of case studies that will form part of a comprehensive bank of materials within the AFG evidence library.  
  • Think laterally and contribute relevant ideas for developing compelling and winning tender submissions, working closely with the Marketing Team to produce literature, videos, and other such material to accurately portray AFG’s compelling proposition.  
  • Identify differentiators, win themes, key messages and content for proposals and presentations. 
  • Identify opportunities to enhance and improve the process, whilst obtaining and sharing best practice. 
  • Ensure all proposals align with the organisation's values, goals, and growth objectives and are in the AFG style as set out in the brand guidelines. 
  • Actively contribute to the development and implementation of rules and procedures governing AFG’s tendering and contract processes, ensuring compliance with internal and governmental controls. 

Person Specification - Bid Writer

Experience

  • Two years’ experience in a business administration role working in the Health and Social Care sector. 
  • Experienced Bid Writer within the Health and Social Care sector. 
  • Extensive experience of working with tender and bid teams in a commercial organisation. 
  • Understanding of the commissioning process within the Health and Social Care sector. 
  • Experience of evaluating the effectiveness of submissions / lessons learnt. 
  • Experience of accessing and understanding tendering portals and relevance of tenders to AFG 
  • Tender process management and workflows to ensure key targets and deadlines are met. 
  • Extracting, monitoring, and evaluating data 
  • Guided desk-based research, analysis, and reporting 
  • Complex and diverse administration and record keeping in an office environment. 
  • Coordinating project management. 
  • Experience of communicating regularly and effectively with teams and individuals at all levels, whilst remaining diplomatic, confidential, and approachable 
  • Experience of organising events and meetings. 
  • Experience of on all procurement routes. 

Skills and Knowledge 

  • Advanced story boarding techniques 
  • Experience of working in a fast paced, professional environment. 
  • Analytical thinker who can research new geographies of commercial interest to AFG. 
  • Experienced in the completion of Pre-Qualification Questionnaires and Intention to Tender Documentation. 
  • Demonstrable win rate. 
  • Excellent attention to detail 
  • Proven ability to form and maintain solid and meaningful working relationships with a wide variety of people at all levels both internally and externally to AFG. 
  • Command of IT (advanced Word, and intermediate Excel and PowerPoint) at a level to ensure the production of high-quality work.  
  • Advanced IT and Media skills - Adobe Creative Suite desirable. 
  • Generation and management of business-related reports 
  • Ability to understand and learn new software and admin procedures. 
  • Proven ability to use own initiative in line with business needs. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to build long-term rapport and networks with key stakeholders. 
  • Effective working in busy environment with multiple demands on your time 
  • Prioritise workload to meet competing and conflicting deadlines without close supervision. 
  • Effective meeting management (minutes / actions / follow-up) 
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. 
  • Basic financial administration 
  • Effective handling of all stakeholders / colleagues, in person and on the phone 
  • Understand of the principles of GDPR 

Qualifications & Training 

Undergraduate degree in English or Journalism
