Job description

We are Centrica! We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising a cleaner, greener future. Working here is #MoreThanACareer - we’re powered by purpose. Together we can make an impact that will truly change tomorrow. Whether you’re developing cutting-edge green tech, helping customers on the front line or simplifying operations behind the scenes.

Your work here isn’t just a job – it’s a mission. We all play a vital role in energising a greener, fairer future.

Brand Insights Lead

Overview
Energy is in our DNA. From supplying the gas and coal that powered the industrial revolution, to becoming the market-leading energy services and solutions company we are today, we've been at the centre of the UK energy industry for over 200 years. Today, we are unique among energy companies in the UK and Ireland, operating across the entire energy value chain through a variety of distinct, but complimentary businesses, all of which share the same purpose – energising a greener, fairer future.

Location:

With our Flexible First working arrangements we empower our colleagues to work in a way that best suits them – meaning location doesn’t need to be a barrier. The role is primarily home based but the team tend to spend two days in a London office weekly, with occasional travel to the Head Office in Windsor.

The Role

We have two strong and distinct retail brands in British Gas and Hive. We’re looking for an experienced Brand Insights Lead to manage the development and on- going tracking of brand and customer performance. This person will work with analysts and researchers across business units (energy, services, smart home) to champion the voice of the customer and use this to guide the development of brand and marketing activity. They will also oversee all brand health tracking, ensuring we bring context to this data, complement this with wider data sources to provide a clear view of brand performance.

We’re looking for a great storyteller who can bring to life these insights in an engaging and confident manner. Someone who is curious and proactive in undercovering the root causes behind brand performance and customer behaviour. Someone that can partner with our Brand Strategy and Marketing teams to create powerful and distinctive campaigns and propositions.

This role will manage a team of researchers and analysts as well working across matrix teams. They will be an experienced and collaborative leader, comfortable communicating with people at every level of the business.

This is an exciting time to be working in Energy and at Centrica as we both supercharge our ambitions for Net Zero and keep the nation running as the leading energy provider in the UK. As Brand Insights Lead, you will play a key role in strengthening the British Gas and HIVE brand to ensure it reflects the amazing work we do today and our ambition for the future.

Key accountabilities will be:

  • Brand health and performance tracking – own our methodology and approach to brand tracking, ensuring this is contextualised and brings in wider data sources to tell a holistic story of brand performance.

  • Customer segmentation – develop and own brand-level customer segments and embed these in the organisation.

  • Voice of the customer – build and own the analysis and reporting on customer behaviours, mindset and needs to ensure we have a pulse on our customers, what matters to them and how we ensure relevance in everything we do.

  • Market trends and inspiration – analysis of energy trends, competitors, emerging technologies and macroeconomic activity to guide brand positioning and strategy.

  • Strategic partnership – work collaboratively with our Brand Strategy team to deliver actionable insights and guide the development of our brand strategy and platform

  • Methodology expertise – oversee the testing approach for activity across the Brand & Marketing team (campaigns, strategy, creative, effectiveness) to ensure we do this with rigour and follow best practice

Our ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills and in-depth knowledge of research techniques, tools and methodologies. You should be experienced in leading brand tracking development and reporting and be a confident storyteller with the ability to flex your approach and shape insight narrative for different audiences.

As a key member of our team, you will have the ability to see the bigger picture and link work into the wider strategic ambition for the business. You should have excellent attention to detail and the ability to analyse and interrogate data to ensure robust outputs. Additionally, you should have experience managing a team of researchers and analysts, as well as building strong partnerships with agencies through effective briefing and holding them accountable.

Our people are the beating heart of our business. We are incredibly proud of our commitment to being FlexFirst. From childcare to furry friends, we listened to our people and understood that they work best when they are comfortable and have a flexible working model that suits their individual needs. We embrace the opportunity to give our colleagues a choice to work from anywhere whilst still ensuring they can connect and engage with their teams through office days, employee networks and virtual events.

In addition, after listening to what matters most to them, we have tailored our well-being & benefits package around our employees.

💰 Competitive salary and bonus potential

👵 Pension scheme
🚗 Electric car lease scheme
⛱ 33 days holiday allowance, inclusive of public holidays, and the option to buy up to 5 additional days

We are proud to be recognised as a disability-confident employer. Our customers come from a variety of different backgrounds, and so do we. We hire great people from all walks of life, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. We will continue championing inclusivity while investing in our local communities to create a better, more sustainable world for everyone.

At Centrica we embrace diversity and actively seek to attract individuals with unique backgrounds and perspectives.
