SalaryBusiness Analyst
Reporting to head of IT the Business Analyst will act as a liaison between the business and technical development teams to ensure business requirements are understood and translated into system and process functionality. The Business Analyst will work with stakeholders from all business departments and related third parties to gather and record user requirements for new and existing technology initiatives, as well as changes to processes and systems, ensuring processes and procedures are efficient and effective. They will closely work with the project team to ensure user requirements are understood before and during the development phase.
The post holder will be responsible for engaging with project managers, system owners and business users to ensure processes are defined and documented. Where appropriate these documented processes will be used by the development team to build and deliver solutions so the Business Analyst will have the ability to turn business requirements into technical processes. Functionality and process testing may be required in this role, with the Business Analyst responsible for compiling test scripts and conducting testing where appropriate.
Current initiatives include the implementation of Student Record System; Timetabling Systems, Service desk systems; integration of events; introduction of several new business systems such as HR recruitment system.The Business Analyst will work with department colleagues and the project teams to ensure requirements of the end users are represented.
The Business Analyst will work on all areas of the project lifecycle from mandate and initial analysis, through implementation and into system operation and maintenance. This involves working in a consultancy capacity with the stakeholders of the different business areas to ensure that project scope is defined properly, and associated work prioritised.
Recognises opportunities for the business area, typically involving the application of technology across a very broad technical front and shows ability to define initiatives which will exploit such opportunities. Ensures that business benefits are clearly defined and appropriately quantified alongside outcomes. Guides senior management towards accepting change brought about through process automation, showing understanding, imagination, and creativity
Main Responsibilities
• Translate business requirements into detailed system requirements and technical design specifications
• Investigate, model, define, refine and document required business processes
• Support the development of training and implementation material
• Assist in integration and acceptance testing and participate in sprint planning where applicable
• Support of User Acceptance Testing (includes aiding test plans/scripts production, and helping with test execution).
• Influences relationships with and between key stakeholders, in business change design, management and implementation, acting as a primary point of contact
• Conducts analysis of demand for services and influences stakeholders to ensure that the necessary investments are made to deliver required services.
• Oversees monitoring of relationships including lessons learned and appropriate feedback. Initiates improvement in services, processes, and systems.
Requirements
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent
• Relevant experience in a business analysis role
• Experience of working in an IT project environment, ideally within the Higher Education Sector
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to interpret a complex set of requirements/guidelines and to develop processes that ensure data and management information produced is both timely and accurate
• Ability to develop a strong working relationship with other technical development teams/suppliers
• Strong analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail
• Ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload
• Proven ability to produce clear and concise documentation
• Highly self-motivated and conscientious; pro-active in seeking out and addressing gaps in provision
• Clear communicator with the ability to convey concepts and materials in an audience-targeted and accessible manner
• Resilient individual with a ‘can do’ attitude and personal drive to achieve results within a team environment
• Ability to take own initiative and work independently, and under pressure
Desirable#
• Ideally with 3 years experience
