Cancer Awareness and Regular Screening (CAReS) Project Coordinator
Job Type: 12 month Fixed Term Contract
Job Type: Full Time or Part Time (Minimum 28 hours, maximum 37 hours per week)
Location: Rotherham
Salary: £26,744 - £30,631 per annum (FTE)
Our client is the lead body for supporting, developing and promoting the voluntary and community sector in the Rotherham Borough. Their role is to support and develop effective action to bring about positive change in the lives of individuals and communities in the local area.
The Role
The Rotherham Cancer Awareness and Regular Screening (CAReS) Programme aims to increase the number of people accessing cancer screening programmes in Rotherham.
Cancer screening programmes (for breast, cervical and bowel cancer) have demonstrated effectiveness in detecting cancers at early stages. Regular screening increases the likelihood of early identification of cancers - enabling earlier treatment, which is more successful and less invasive, leading to better patient outcomes and reduced future healthcare intervention.
To improve the health of residents in Rotherham, and in particular cancer survival rates, the organisation are working collaboratively with place partners to focus particular attention and efforts on working with people who are more likely to experience higher inequalities in health - such as those who live in the most deprived areas or those from ethnic minority populations, to advance equalities and improve health outcomes.
They know that a range of factors impact on individuals’ access to health services including structural barriers, such the accessibility and convenience of services, as well as cultural perceptions of services, and individuals’ motivation and understanding of health issues.
As the CAReS Project Co-ordinator you will work with stakeholders to build community partnerships and develop small grant-funded activity, engagement strategies and targeted outreach methods reaching people who face barriers to cancer screening to:
- Increase awareness about the signs and symptoms of cancer and the importance of cancer screening.
- Empower individuals to take proactive steps towards their health, and reduce barriers to accessing cancer screening services.
- Reach and engage with individuals and groups who are less likely to come forward with cancer symptoms and to access cancer screening initiatives.
Role Requirements
As well as having experience of working in the community sector or the NHS in a paid or voluntary role, you will have an understanding of the wider determinants of health including social, economic and environmental factors. An effective team player, you will also have the ability to motivate and influence others through a person-centred approach and possess personal drive and resilience.
