Job description

About us

Do you want to help us radically change the way we deliver social care?

Join Oxfordshire County Council on an exciting journey towards Delivering the Future Together, our ambitious transformation programme which is enabling us to be an employer, partner, and place shaper of choice. We're seeking the right people who can help us get there while embracing our value of ' daring to do it differently' , as we continue to strive to do better.

In Adult Services, this means we're daring to do adult social care differently by supporting Oxfordshire's residents to stay fit, healthy and independent in their communities for as long as possible through a strength's-based approach and least restrictive options. Working with local NHS services, care providers and community and voluntary groups, we make the most of what each of our strengths are, pulling in the same direction, and united by one shared vision.

This means we keep the people we support at the heart of all that we do. And that works. By listening to people and building on the positives in their lives, we can work collaboratively to help them live the lives they want with the right support around them.

It is something we call the Oxfordshire Way and we can't do it alone - our proactive, positive approach to social care gives everyone the opportunity to make a bigger difference. If we're doing a good job, we don't stand still - we're ambitious and we're always striving to do better; it's in our DNA.

About the role

We are a diverse team of innovated and passionate professionals dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing a Mental Health crisis in Oxfordshire. We uphold social justice and equality, protect and preserve individual rights while ensuring individual needs are at the centre of all that we do.

Our team of AMHPs come from a variety of professional backgrounds; we embrace and value each other's contribution and area of expertise and work collaboratively, both internally and with other external organisations. Our AMPH service is supported by a dedicated Team Manager and Service Manager who are passionate about collaboration, innovation and who offer diverse learning and development opportunities in support of their team's growth. We ensure every member of our team feels valued and supported with a team culture that holds a shared vision to deliver a high standard of service and who are encouraged to create innovative solutions in support of the goals the people we work with want to achieve.

As Casual Approved Mental Health Professional, social justice and the wellbeing of those we support is at the forefront of everything you do. You'll have the ability to promote the rights, dignity and self-determination of patients consistent with their own needs and wishes, to enable them to contribute to the decisions made affecting their quality of life and liberty.

About you

As part of this role, you will:

Carry out MHA assessments to the highest standards giving respect, to confidentiality, choice, dignity and privacy by applying legal and professional knowledge to achieve positive outcomes for individuals.

Contribute to service improvement initiatives by reporting what could work better and also implementing changes in guidance and new ways of working.

  • A trained AMHP from recognised Community Psychiatric Nurse, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Psychology background.
