Job description

This post is a designated Team Manager role with responsibility for managing the Children At Risk Through Exploitation (CATE) Service and you will need to have an in-depth knowledge, and understanding of both Child Exploitation and Missing Children 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Promote partnership working with a range of statutory, independent and voluntary services and maintain links with other relevant organisations to ensure collaborative working between service users, carers and key partner agencies.  Ensure that the service is positively promoted in the public domain in a way that encourages a better understanding of its work.
  • Prioritise and plan team objectives, highlighting resource issues to the Service Delivery Manager and ensuring that the team meet their objectives and targets within agreed timeframes and resources.
  • Provide the highest level of professional leadership, motivation and direction to a team of qualified social workers / CATE Practitioner and others to ensure that the service provided is effective and meets the needs of children, young people and their families
  • Be accountable for the practice of social workers / CATE Practitioners and others within the team.  Ensuring that effective and sufficient professional and practice supervision, as well as performance appraisals, take place.  Seek out, identify and provide opportunities for students and apprentices and support mentoring and coaching to enhance the quality of practice within the team.
  • Support the Group Manager in overseeing the quality of work across Exploited Children Service area, taking a lead role to fully embed the Contextual Safeguarding model of practice.
  • Ensure Missing Procedures are followed and Return Home Interviews are completed. 
  • Keep up to date with service specific legislation, Ofsted regulations and recommendations, guidance, good practice, and other developments within social work and develop ways of implementing and embedding these in practice. Promote new professional practices in the social work field with the team and across the services.  Develop and initiate positive changes to the practice, procedures, and policy and specifically the professional development of the team.
  • Initiate and chair Child Protection Strategy Meetings, Professional Meetings, Risk Panel and core groups for particular children as required, monitoring the performance of agreed tasks for all participants.  Chair/lead reflective practice group meetings as required.
  • Promote equality as an integral part of the role and treat everyone with fairness and dignity.
