Job description

Youth Worker – Youth Justice Service (0.5 Fixed Term Post – 12 Months)

Dudley Youth Justice Service is on a journey of evolution - a journey towards becoming a therapeutic service, developing the work that we do in a preventative way – intervening early to give us the best chance of embedding positive change for the children and families we work with.  A vacancy has arisen resulting in us being able to offer you to join our team. You will be joining a team working towards offering children and families an alternative approach to engagement, focussed on attempting to enable children to desist from offending & anti-social behaviour through early interventions targeting two crucial systems of their lives – their family and their education.

We are therefore looking to recruit a Youth Worker whose role will focus on providing support alongside our multi-agency team, as part of the Turnaround Programme we have received funding to deliver, from the Ministry of Justice. The Turnaround programme provides support to children on the cusp of the justice system, working collaboratively with a range of key agencies, with the aim to divert them away from offending. If you are passionate about working with children and young people, this is an opportunity to be part of something new and innovative.

We are looking for a dedicated and dynamic professional with excellent communication skills, to focus on delivering interventions to children as well as keeping their parents/carers involved in the process. This role will specifically focus on planning and delivering programmes of work, carrying out consultations with parents/carers to capture their voice in relation to preferred methods of engagement, therefore co-designing interventions.

You would be part of an evolving, supportive and welcoming team, providing therapeutic youth justice services.  Dudley YJS is committed to continuous improvement in how we deliver our services to children and the community. The successful candidate will have experience of working with children at risk of engaging in criminal activity and anti-social behaviour. You will be flexible, enthusiastic, innovative and committed to working with statutory partners and both local and national organisations to improve outcomes for children and families.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. We are a service keen to embed a Child First approach to working with all children and believe that championing the positive factors which may already be present in their lives will give us the best chance of achieving this.

To find out more about the journey we are on or anything else related to the role, please call Gurpreeth Singh Aujla on 01384 813060 / 07980 769826 or email Gurpreeth.aujla@dudley.gov.uk
