We are looking for aHead of Finance and Operations for a small and growing charity supporting children and adults with learning disabilities or autism, and their families. It’s a brand new role that you get to help shape, reporting to the CEO and working with teams across the organization, from HR and fundraising to delivery of services and interacting with the board of trustees. Hybrid role, either 4 or 5 day week between Monday and Friday, including 3 days a week in the Woking office. 28 days holiday, free parking, other good benefits, and the satisfaction of working for an organization delivering exceptional and valued services.
The relevant person for the Head of Finance role will:
- be a qualified accountant, with at least 3 years’ successful experience in financial leadership, ideally in the charity sector
- have experience of producing annual accounts and working with auditors
- be able to operate at a strategic, leadership level, including deputizing for the CEO when necessary
- initially be willing to carry out day to day financial transactions hands on, with a view to recruiting admin level support as part of the organization’s growth, and overseeing tasks carried out by finance volunteers
- have a confident communication style and presence, and people management experience
- be motivated to take up the opportunity to contribute across the organization, working with leadership, services teams and others to play a part in the successful development of this growing charity
- ideally have an interest in people management and development, as oversight of an experienced HR manager and optionally part of contributing to people strategy, talent development, and developing the organisation's culture is part of the role
- be willing to work in the Woking office for a few days each week, and at other times work from home in a hybrid role.
In this role you will:
- Be a key advisor to the CEO, Finance Committee and Board of Trustees, providing professional insights into financial matters
- Produce detailed and accurate records of financial results and forecasts, to enhance efficiency, minimize costs and maximize funds
- Provide financial leadership and oversight of all financial operations, potentially engaging finance volunteers or finance trainees to assist with hands on financial transactions
- Manage payroll in conjunction with the outsourced payroll provider
- Ensure compliance with financial authorities and regulations including charity SORP
- Complete statutory returns for charities commission, companies house, Ofsted etc
- Support the preparation of bids and tenders, contributing to their success by providing and presenting positively the relevant financial information
- Oversee an experienced HR manager and contribute to people strategy and / or have the opportunity to oversee IT (via an engaged outsourced IT provider) or premises / facilities according to your experience and skills.
