Clinical Director: Tilehouse Counselling - May 2024

Responsible to: The trustees

Base Location: Tilehouse Counselling, Hitchin

Line Management: The role holder will be the CEO of the organisation. See organisational chart

Salary: £55,000 - £60,000 per annum (full-time equivalent).

Time: 3 days per week (negotiable - we are open to flexible working but would want the post holder to be in the office two days per week.

There is a requirement to lead the six-weekly full team/clinical meeting.

Annual Leave: 25 days plus 8 bank holidays per year (pro-rata for part-time employees). An additional day’s leave is awarded for every year of service, up to a maximum of 30 days annual leave.

Contact with: Operations Manager, counsellors, Finance & Admin Officer, Administration Assistant, trustees, volunteers, supporters, fundraisers & external agencies such a CAMHS.

Job Summary

The post holder will provide oversight, management and development of the services of Tilehouse Counselling. Working in close partnership with our Operations Manager, external clinical supervisors, trustees, and clinical/administrative teams this is an exciting opportunity to take the charity forward. The Clinical Director will be expected to demonstrate collaborative leadership in this role.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Providing clinical insight and direction in developing a future clinical strategy for Tilehouse Counselling.
  • Providing day to day clinical management, line management for the staff.
  • Ensuring the necessary clinical policies, procedures, systems, and safeguarding practices are in place and adhered to (including management of clinical risk). This includes ensuring compliance with ethical standards required by the BACP and other relevant professional/statutory bodies.
  • To work with the Operations Manager to fundraise.
  • To develop strong external links with other providers and to liaise with statutory mental health and social care leaders in the area.
  • Hold ultimate responsibility as CEO for health and safety, finance and Charity Commission compliance.

Person Specification

Qualfifcations:

  • A professional counselling qualification and relevant professional training in clinical supervision training with an approved institution.
  • Relevant & up to date safeguarding training (to at least level 3).
  • Registration and accreditation with one of BACP/BPS/ACP/BPC/UKCP.
  • Proven competency in working with children, young people, and adults.

Experience:

  • Extensive training in and a minimum of 5 years’ experience working with children, young people and adults in a counselling, health, social care or education settinng.
  • Evidence of clinical supervision competence and experience, and of clinical governance and audit.
  • Experience of leadership and team management.
  • Experience in the use of clinical outcome measures and other service impact indicators.
  • Good understanding and experience of budget and resource planning.

Knowledge:

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are typically atained by a recognised qualification in counselling.
  • Sound and demonstrable experience of counselling and psychotherapy theory and therapeutic treatment options
  • Awareness of cultural, gender and sexual diversity that may influence the experience of both adults and young people.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of legislation and guidance regarding children and young people.
  • Advanced knowledge of clinical supervision theories and techniques, including knowledge of ongoing education, evaluation, performance standards, and ethical guidelines.
  • Knowledge and solid experience of risk assessment and safeguarding, including how to promote best practice.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to support and encourage counsellors and contain their anxieties.
  • Strong listening skills and an ability to motivate, lead and support team members.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and evidence based practice.
  • Ability to work effectively in partnership with a range of different agencies and organisations.
  • Ability to draft writen documents, which are clear, concise, and easy to understand by both professionals and non-professionals.
  • Ability to manage risk and safeguarding processes, including liaison, documentation and reporting protocols.
  • Adherence to a professional code of ethics.
  • Excellent time management & organisational skills, including ability to plan, prioritise, and manage own workload.
  • Good office IT/computer skills and knowledge.
