Client Overview:
My client is a leading company in the Civil Engineering Contracting industry, known for its commitment to excellence and innovation.
Purpose of the Role:
The Commercial Manager will be responsible for the management of the commercial team, overseeing the commercial delivery of projects, and providing guidance to the estimating team. The role involves maximising commercial performance, maintaining positive relationships with clients and subcontractors, and ensuring the achievement of company objectives.
Key Accountabilities:
- Hands-on management of all commercial activities.
- Identifying and implementing strategic approaches to commercial activities.
- Managing the commercial team to ensure contractual requirements are met.
- Interacting with clients for new and existing opportunities.
- Maintaining relationships with subcontractors and supply chain partners.
- Reviewing tender documentation and reporting on risks and opportunities.
- Identifying and managing commercial opportunities and risks during project delivery.
- Ensuring timely and accurate compilation of monthly contract review reports.
- Achieving the best final account outcome for all contracts.
- Maximising project cash flow, including timely receipt of payment certificates.
Competency Requirements:
- Proven managerial experience in the Civil Engineering Contracting industry.
- Commercial and contractual awareness with a track record of success.
- Team leadership and organisational management skills.
- Experience in mentoring and developing commercial team members.
- Knowledge of commonly used Construction Contracts (NEC3, NEC4, JCT, ICC).
- Good working knowledge of highway works, drainage, bridgeworks, and general civil engineering.
- Computer literate, including proficiency in Microsoft packages and Conquest Estimating Package.
- Demonstrable negotiation skills and ability to manage contractual or commercial issues.
Technical / Professional Expertise and Qualifications:
- HND, HNC, or Degree in a relevant construction-related discipline.
- Member of a recognised professional organisation related to Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering.
- CSCS card holder.
- Valid driver’s license and able to drive.
