Description
The Commis Chef Apprenticeship is suitable for someone who prepares food and carries out cooking tasks under the supervision of a more senior chef.
It is designed to develop craft skills and knowledge within all areas of the operation of a kitchen.
Delivery method – weekly day release
You will work under the guidance of our Executive Chef who themselves started as a Chef de Partie here at Berners Tavern. You will be given the opportunity to work and progress through the different sections of the kitchen. You will be given the skills to learn a new monthly menu at Rosette standard. You will be exposed to internal and external trainings to develop your skills and get you to the next step in your career. You will learn the preparation and cooking of all fresh ingredients on site. This will include meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, breakfast, banqueting and desserts. You will learn basic kitchen skills and in addition learn about food hygiene, health & safety, storage and cleaning.

Entry requirements
GCSE English and Maths grades A-D / 3-9 (or equivalent) • GCSE Cookery/Food Tech desirable

Westminster Kingsway College has an excellent reputation within the hospitality and catering industry. The Hospitality school has been based at Vincent Square, Victoria for 100 years. The college offers a unique opportunity to study for apprenticeships that are tailored direct to industry requirements. The Hospitality School is a member of two National Skills Academies for Hospitality and Food & Drink Manufacturing. Expected Duration:
12 months training followed by 4 months end point assessment

Remember you will be on your feet all day!
You will be working in a hot and busy kitchen You will work a rota which may require you to work weekends and evenings.
