The role

United Utilities are seeking a Commissioning Manager to spearhead a dynamic team, driving the execution of a diverse range of projects. This pivotal role demands a visionary leader who can develop and direct a skilled commissioning team, ensuring the successful realisation of our strategic goals in the North West of England.

The Commissioning Manager will operate as the subject[WB1] matter expert (SME) for commissioning[WB2] , orchestrating the technical direction, strategy and implementation of commissioning processes both internally and within UU’s client network. This role involves providing technical advice, evaluating commissioning outcomes against strategic objectives and key performance indicators, and communicating these findings to stakeholders. Moreover, the Commissioning Manager will be entrusted with the critical task of managing and allocating commissioning resources, including the recruitment of top-tier talent to their own team.

In the role of Commissioning Manager, you will be instrumental in advancing our AMP8 programme. By fostering a culture of innovation and leveraging your adept leadership abilities, you will guide a cadre of commissioning engineers towards delivering cutting-edge solutions which[WB3] will shape and define our future trajectory. Your responsibilities will encompass offering mentorship, facilitating professional development and championing the wellbeing of your team within this specialised field. Key accountabilities

  • To lead and manage a team of commissioning engineers across a portfolio of work
  • Manage and develop commissioning strategy and capability within UU, providing technical expertise for commissioning, planning, strategy and delivery
  • Manage and deploy commissioning resource across a programme of works - including recruitment
  • Report commissioning performance against strategy and KPI to the appropriate stakeholders
  • Own the commissioning risks and constraints across the programme
  • Stakeholder liaison at programme level

Skills & experience
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following criteria:

  • Chartered or Incorporated professional or demonstrable equivalent level of expertise.
  • Detailed working knowledge and experience of commissioning, processes & philosophies
  • Ability to influence and direct the approach regarding commissioning across the organisation
  • Demonstrable experience in commissioning of capital investment projects through complete life-cycle
  • Significant leadership and people management skills and an ability to build and develop high performing teams from across UU and external organisations and coach and mentor as appropriate
