Job description

Summary

Are you passionate about engaging a diverse range of audiences across a mix of communication channels? We’re looking for an experienced communications and marketing professional to join our consultancy team in the Midlands and East of England (MEE) Region. You’ll support teams at National Trust places in the Peak District, North Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Lincolnshire, helping to promote a much-loved brand while encouraging supporters to visit, join, donate, and volunteer.

We're looking for an individual who wants to help grow support for our work to protect nature, beauty, and history.

This is a fixed-term contract for 12 months. Location is flexible and role can be delivered through hybrid working. Ideally, you’ll live within commutable distance of the Peak District, North Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Lincolnshire.

What it's like to work here

You’ll be part of the Trust’s internal consultancy: a flexible resource of specialist skills and expertise. As one of a multidisciplinary team of experts, you’ll be working with others to help make things happen, wherever you’re needed.

You’ll be based at the National Trust office at Hardwick Hall, but our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.

What you'll be doing

Working closely with a cluster of property teams, you’ll deliver a communications and marketing strategy that will spark conversations, provide compelling reasons to visit and drive awareness of our charity’s cause. You'll thrive on the challenge of balancing competing demands and be experienced in mitigating risk and managing communications when the unexpected happens.

You’ll help lead and inspire by coaching colleagues to improve their comms and marketing skills and knowledge. You’ll work collaboratively with communications and marketing teams across the organisation to ensure plans are integrated, creating content for owned, earned, and paid channels and evaluating the impact of your work.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for someone with the following skills & experience:

  • planning and delivering audience-first, integrated communications, and marketing plans (across web, social media, press, paid)
  • a strong copywriter with significant experience in communications, public relations, and digital marketing
  • working in line with an organisation’s values to mitigate reputational risk and managing communications for contentious issues
  • coaching and mentoring skills, able to enthuse, inspire and build confidence of non-specialists in marketing and communications
  • developing trusted relationships with a diverse range of colleagues, able to influence, providing advice and solutions
  • training and supporting colleagues on IT systems, such as member emails, that support the production and evaluation of digital marketing.
  • a self-starter, able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
The package

The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong.
