Consultant Psychiatrist

Doctors Direct have great opportunity for a Consultant with Adult Psychiatry experience available in and around Manchester. As a Consultant Psychiatrist you will provide clinical leadership as well as diagnostic assessments and treatment to service users with severe, complex, and high risk psychiatric conditions.

You will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of people of working age from his/her catchment area who are referred or otherwise present to secondary care mental health services. You will provide comprehensive assessments, formulate bio-psycho- social care plans, and offer evidence based treatment and advice.

The successful post holder will work as Consultant Psychiatrist at Greater Manchester Mental Health. You will work with a multidisciplinary team including nursing, social work, occupational therapy and psychology staff. The team works with a limited number of GP practices and there is an expectation that there will be close liaison with those practices. The Consultant will be available to give advice to primary care and the multidisciplinary team. The consultant will have a small caseload of patients that he/she will see in outpatients but the majority of patients will have a separate care coordinator.

• Days per week: Monday-Friday (our client will accept part time consultants 2-3 days per week)
• Shift Pattern: 9:00-17:00

Responsibilities will include:

• work directly with patients suffering from a range of mental health problems and provide a excellent standard of practice and care
• assess patients by reviewing their mental and physical health, their background and current social situation, thoughts and past health issues, as well as any potential risk factors
• take notes and keep detailed records of any interactions and decisions
• decide on suitable psychiatric treatment plans for patients, which often include a mix of psychological, medical and social interventions in conjunction with other health professionals
• prescribe medication when necessary
• monitor and review treatment regularly
• have excellent knowledge of physiology, anatomy, psychology, pharmacology and mental health law, as well as an awareness of the social factors that influence mental health
• work closely within, or lead, a multidisciplinary team of health professionals, including psychiatric nurses, psychologists and occupational therapists
• supervise and teach junior medical staff

The minimum requirements for the role are:

• Valid GMC
• Right to work in the UK
• Clinical attachment complete
• Minimum 3 months paid UK experience
• AC Status essential
• S12 desirable
• 10 PA
