What you will do
The Tata Steel UK Legal Team is managed by the Director Legal Services who reports to the company’s Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary. Reporting to the Director Legal Services is the Head of Legal, HR Services, and three corporate commercial lawyers, namely the Head of Legal Commercial and two other corporate commercial lawyers. The legal team provide legal advice to and manage legal risk for the company on all matters (with limited exception, e.g. property matters) in the UK and globally as well as advising the Tata Steel Group on raw material procurement.
As a Corporate lawyer for Tata Steel UK you will be confident in providing legal advice in a commercial setting covering all corporate/commercial activities and all aspects of legal mitigation. You will be reviewing and/or preparing a range of documents covering various topics and managing external advisers where appropriate. You will also be supporting compliance activity and advising on changes in relevant law and regulations.
This is a Remote working role, but some UK travel may be required. You will also be required to attend monthly meetings in London where Legal Training also occurs.
What you will need
We are looking for a UK based qualified Solicitor with 4+ years of Post Qualified Experience. Some in-house experience is preferred (this could be via a secondment from private practice).
We are looking for a team player willing to work in a flat structure with a high level of enthusiasm and cultural intelligence. You should have the ability to manage and prioritise a large portfolio of matters whilst facing competing demands and addressing ambiguity but still achieving outcomes and having a drive to understand the commercial context. You must also have the ability to communicate legal advice robustly and clearly in a commercial setting.
You will have:
- Sufficient experience in core areas of contract, tort, company and commercial law
- Broad commercial practice with experience is as many of the following elements as possible:
- International sale of goods
- Procurement, including capital project or commodity procurement
- R&D/IP development agreements (not necessary to be an expert in registered IP)
- E-commerce
- Competition Law, GDPR and Sanctions (not as a specialism but within commercial practice)
- M&A
- Corporate reorganisations
- Contentious/pre-litigation experience in relation to any of the above
- The role does NOT include advice of property law or employment law.
