Introduction
The Research & Information (R&I) is the home of the Commons Library, and the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST). At the heart of Research & Information is the 200 strong team of people delivering and supporting our work. These roles range from information professionals and Librarians, statisticians and subject experts; to communication professionals, learning and development leads, and those providing office and business support.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Customer Engagement Officer to join our team and help support the important engagement work we will be doing with MPs post-election and beyond.
This role would be based in the Research & Information Communications and Engagement Team, where you will acquire a range of administrative, communication and marketing skills, as well as core digital skills to support the Commons Library website and intranet.
The Speaker is proud to be launching the 'Speaker's Apprenticeship Academy' which will work to widen the House Service talent pool by creating six new apprentice roles which will be placed across the House of Commons. Apprentices will have the unique opportunity to learn and develop their skills in the UK Parliament, the home of British democracy. We're not looking for politics experts, we want to hear from candidates who might not have previously considered the House of Commons as a workplace option, and who are early in their careers and not in full time education.

This is an exciting opportunity to support R&I's Customer Engagement work, helping us improve how we gather and use feedback from MPs and their staff following the 2024 general election. You will gain varied business administration experience, as well as making a meaningful contribution to the work of Parliament and Research & Information. We are aiming to visit all new MPs' Westminster offices within 12 months of the election, you will help ensure that we can achieve that aim by offering vital administrative and logistical support.
As part of the communications and engagement team, you will have the opportunity to work on communications campaigns, digital projects and marketing plans, alongside your engagement work. You will also work closely with R&I Team Services supporting inclusion and diversity initiatives and gaining administrative experience on a range of projects.
We are looking for a curious and interested colleague who is keen to collaborate effectively with a broad range of Research & Information colleagues and other stakeholders, including MPs and their staff. We are committed to supporting you in your new role and can offer a range of role specific training and wider development opportunities.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
- Logging and maintaining MP and office data for engagement and events.
- Inputting engagement events and activities into shared calendars to ensure that colleagues are aware of relevant activities.
- Scheduling meetings and events, inviting relevant colleagues, taking and circulating meeting notes and following up on agreed actions.
As part of this role, you'll undertake a Business Administration Apprenticeship at Level 3. This is the academic equivalent of two 'A' Levels.
We will enrol you onto the apprenticeship shortly after you join, and it will typically take 18 months to complete. You will complete training for 20% of your time, including from an apprenticeship training provider.
