Border Health Unit
The Border Health Unit is a small central Unit based at Heathrow Airport, with responsibility for border health. It comprised of managerial staff, Consultants in Communicable Disease Control (CCDC), clinical staff and clerical supporting staff.
It is responsible for leading on health hazards at ports, seaports and ground crossings. Primarily, it provides expert advice and guidance by developing operational protocols, advising Government Departments and other stakeholders and supporting local Health protection Teams. It also provides Quality Assurance to the UK’s Pre-departure migrant TB Screening Programme.
Location
This role will be based in Health Control Unit, Heathrow Airport.
UKHSA operates a hybrid working model where business needs allow. This provides us with greater flexibility about how and where we work, to get the best from our workforce.
As a hybrid worker, you will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of your contractual working hours (approximately 3 days a week pro rata, averaged over a month).
Some additional flexibility may be possible, which will be agreed upon with the hiring manager based on individual requirements and business needs.

Job Summary
The post-holder will have responsibility for overseeing the operation of the Quality Assurance Service for the UK Pre-departure Migrant TB Screening IT system, for the collection, collation and analysis of data from the system and report writing. Also, other wider UK Border Health and Quality Improvement programmes which are present and may be developed in the future, post holder will be working with such database systems.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the guidance of the Border Health CCDC leading on the Quality Assurance service for the UK Pre-entry Migrant TB Screening Programme manage the day-to-day operation of the Programme and IT system to ensure the timely collection of data from the overseas clinics.
- Collect and collate the data for accuracy and completeness and ensuring at all times UKHSA data management policies and GDPR/Caldicott guidance are followed. Post holder will make use of the latest technologies, methods and trends for collecting and analysing Border Health data.
- Analyse the data for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for each clinic on a routine basis and ad hoc as required to support clinic inspection visits.
- Post holder will be contributing to wider border health surveillance activities, assuring data quality, undertaking complex data analyses and seeking to improve and enhance databases and systems.
- The post holder will also provide routine surveillance reports, that include basic descriptive analyses and interpretation, and exceedance reporting.
- Technical skills in the use of statistical / database / mapping / web tools such as SQL, SharePoint, Stata, R and ArcGIS and Minitab are desired. Post holder should be adept in using basic statistical packages and interrogating and interpreting large databases.
- For this position we are seeking candidates with some experience in epidemiology and surveillance and managing large databases.
- Post holder is required to work collaboratively with Border Health colleagues of the three other nations in the UK and may be required to produce joint data and technical reports.
- Post holder will be required to update database management, analytical and report writing skills and will be supported to update their CPD as per UKHSA policies.
- Post holder will be required to work collaboratively in managing Border health systems with number of stakeholders like Home Office, DHSC, DfT, FCDO, Airports, Seaports and Border Health team of other countries and UKHSA Field and Epidemiology services and Science directorate and Knowledge and Information management and HPT teams
- Any other duties as specified by the CCDC or Head of Border Health.
Person specification
It is important through your application and Statement of Suitability of 1,500 words that you give evidence and examples of proven experience of each of the following criteria:
Essential Criteria:
- BSc 2.1 or above in data science or computing science or computing
- Experience of managing and analysing large data sets
- Experience with statistical and graphics software programmes.
- Experience of writing reports and communicating analytical/statistical matters to non-analytical/statistical professionals.
- Ability to demonstrate high degree of literacy, numeracy, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Ability to accurately analyse, interpret and present quantitative data
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, working to instruction and independently, and to use initiative
- Ability to demonstrate capabilities to manage own workload, make informed decisions in the absence of required information, work under pressure to tight and often changing timescales to meet deadlines
- An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity and good working relationships, both in terms of day-to-day working practices, but also in relation to management systems

STAGE 1 - APPLICATION & SIFT:
