Our Technical Engineering Consultancy client in the South coast are seeking x2 Design Engineers to join their business.

They are looking for Designers with strong mechanical CAD Design experience using ideally Catia V6 or if not Catia V5.

These roles are 70% CAD design and 30% project engineering biased.

You will have the opportunity to work on 2-3 projects at any one time across an array of industries such as Automotive, Marine and Aerospace giving a nice variety to the work you be working on.

It is a small business and so company fit it really important too, someone who has some experience and wants to grow as the business grows also. Happy to work on a variety of design projects.

There is flexibility of a mix of office and home based working in these roles.

ROLE SUMMARY:

To work closely with the design, manufacturing, and project engineers to agree an engineering approach and to take ownership of detailed mechanical design or project work in a variety of market sectors including automotive, defence, marine and aerospace.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for prototype and concept design of specified hardware, ensuring they are professionally engineered to meet the companies quality standards.

• Optimising the design of components or systems for production using specified functional or analytical tools, including hand calculations where appropriate

• Perform design for manufacture (DFM) activities for products and tooling.

• Solve engineering problems and provide solutions using design best practices.

• Ensure solutions are technically fit for purpose, reliable, cost effective and meet appropriate legislation.

• Produce drawings, bills of material and compile technical instruction manuals.

• Manage change control and data management in line with company processes.

• Interface with customers to capture and define their requirements and expectations.

• Account for project risks or constraints and proactively seek to manage challenges.

• Work closely with project manager to ensure all projects are completed on time.

• Input into design reviews and support package and integration meetings.

• Manage external suppliers and engineering partners.

Report to Chief Design Engineer. The team currently has two design Engineers and a Lead Engineer.

SUCCESS PROFILES:

Education/Professional Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in design, mechanical or manufacturing engineering

• Minimum of 3 year’s experience within an engineering environment

• Previous automotive experience in vehicle design advantageous

• Detailed practical knowledge and previous hands-on engineering experience

• Strong CAD and first principal design and engineering skills, preferably Catia V5 or V6 including part, assembly, and drawings.

• Knowledge of CAE simulation and analysis tools and processes

• Good awareness of engineering fundamentals

Communications

Need to be able to have technical discussions with engineering teams, engineering management and cross function supporting teams including product, quality, and manufacturing.

Able to present status in project reviews to senior management team.

• A good communicator with the ability to influence and work cross functionally, in a fast-moving environment.

• Adopts a creative & thoughtful approach to system and concept design, solving engineering problems using a practical problem-solving process where required, with an excellent eye for detail and an engaging mind, open to new problems outside their normal comfort zone.

• Well organised and delivery focused.

• Willing & able to travel within the UK.
