As part of the Library Service’s Development Librarian Team, your role is key in delivering this vision through effective management and a flexible and innovative approach to delivering and developing the service. You will need to be committed to delivering effective library services, with a focus on customers and communities, and have a passion for making a difference.
High level teamwork skills are essential in this role as you will part of the library service’s SMT+. You will need to work effectively with all members of this team, and you will need to be able to effectively communicate and report on your areas of work support the workloads of others when needed, and work to tight deadlines.
Experience of working in libraries is important in this role; this post will be leading on four separate externally funded projects all of which are vital to delivering our service effectively and having maximum impact on communities. The role focusses on digital and STEM both of which are key to both library and council outcomes in terms of inclusion, achievement, learning and economic growth. The specific projects are the development of the Dewsbury Library Makerspace, the Digital Hub Librarians, and two “LibraryOn” seed funded projects. In addition to this, the role will include being involved in the planning and development of the Makerspace in the new Huddersfield library.
Specific skills required include experience of supporting specialist digital skills in communities, experience of outreach activities in a learning environment and previous experience of project management including managing funding. We’d also expect the postholder to have knowledge of libraries, including experience of working with existing library user groups and individual service users, liaising with stakeholders, an awareness of and experience of national library initiatives, and an awareness of national trends and initiatives around digital services in libraries and in particular Makerspace initiatives in libraries and other settings. A high level of technical skills and confidence in using technology and an ability to learn more about specialist equipment and materials would also be required.
Please note that, on occasions, you will be expected to work weekends and evenings. Working across the whole Kirklees Library estate is part of the role as is working ‘in the office’ on set days.
