The Henry Royce Institute (Royce) is the UK’s home for Advanced Materials research, innovation and commercialisation. With its hub at The University of Manchester, the Institute has spokes at ten Partner institutions: the Universities of Sheffield, Leeds, Liverpool, Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College London, Cranfield and Strathclyde, as well as at the UK Atomic Energy Authority and National Nuclear Laboratory. This key digital role will support this UK-wide Partnership, as well as key projects aligned into Royce which are aimed at supporting companies to adopt sustainable innovations to their materials needs.
The post holder will work with the Digital Communications Manager, Communications and Engagement Manager and other key staff from the Royce Leadership and Engagement Teams and the University of Manchester’s Faculty of Science & Engineering, as well as those from Royce Partner organisations, to raise the national and international profile of the Henry Royce Institute by actively promoting research projects and commercialisation activities. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, the role will involve engagement with industry, academia and other key stakeholders to promote Royce as a national centre for Advanced Materials Science, and specifically to promote a number of key projects within the Royce portfolio.
There will be a particular focus on digital marketing and communications strategies, exploring the most appropriate channels for a range of content and targeting key audiences and communities. The Digital Communications Officer will be a key member of the Royce Communications & Engagement Team as the Institute expands project delivery across all aspects of its mission.
The role will have a focus on Digital Communications activity across a number of newly developing projects, including (but not limited to) the new Centre for Expertise in Advanced Materials and Sustainability (CEAMS) and an upcoming major collaboration with a global multinational which will see a new centre for Innovation in Manchester. In the case of the former, the post-holder will be expected to engage closely with the Rochdale Development Agency (RDA) which is the lead Partner for the CEAMS project.
The post-holder will also be required to produce brochures and newsletters, and so will be skilled in the use of the Adobe creative suite.
The post-holder will lead on the content development management for these key Royce projects, and while will be supported by the team, will also need to be able to work without day-to-day direct supervision.
